Dear kn1c,
We are so glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed your stay with us. Indeed, the neighborhood is safe to walk about, and most importantly the hotel is just in the heart of hundreds of restaurants and all kind of tastes, making eateries access very easy.
We thank you much for recommending this hotel to the Tripadvisor community and we shall see again when you are in town!

I've stayed here several times, starting 5-6 years ago, then took a break when the rates went up, then have come back 3-4 times in the last 2 years when the rates have been very reasonable. Great location, usually very nice spacious, light, very clean rooms. Front desk service is consistently very good and friendly. I use the complimentary gym membership (great place within a 10 minute walk) as well as the coin-operated washing machines/dryers and cold drink vending machines in the basement. Breakfast is pretty good (around $14) although the restaurant sometimes seems over-air conditioned and cold.

Just a short, tree-lined walk from bustling Dupont Circle, and surrounded by embassies and other historic structures, the Carlyle Suites Hotel is an art-deco respite from the hurly-burly excitement that is Washington D.C. Staffed by a capable, friendly and very helpful crew, the hotel is efficiently run and well-maintained. Our smallish room on the third floor was spotlessly clean and functional, with a small kitchenette offering a coffee maker (and coffee), microwave, refrigerator and two burners. The two double beds were comfortable and the armoire wardrobe was sufficient for our three night stay (although probably not roomy enough for lengthy stays). Perhaps most important, the hotel’s air conditioning worked beautifully and was definitely needed during the unseasonably warm October weekend we were there.

There’s a restaurant on the hotel’s main floor, which we didn’t discover until we were checking out. Judging from the enormous, lively crowd at Sunday’s lunch, it definitely looks worth checking out next time we’re in town. There’s also an attractive, small bar near the elevators which we also neglected to investigate.

It’s a 10 minute walk from the Carlyle Suites Hotel to the Metro line in Dupont Circle, and on the weekend we were there, the Red Line was being repaired and buses were shuttling passengers to the Metro Line downtown. Worth noting because, while this endeavor sounds like a big mess, it was surprisingly well-organized and we were able to go about our travels throughout the city with a minimum of fuss.

There are numerous shops and restaurants surrounding Dupont Circle, and the immediate neighborhoods off the circle are lovely and charming. Be sure and check out the business area just one block east of the Carlyle Suites, taking R Street over to 17th. In addition to good restaurants and bars, there’s a Safeway, in the event you want to prepare something in your kitchenette, and there’s also a sizable CVS Pharmacy. Further east, on P Street, towards Logan Circle, there’s a Whole Foods Market, more restaurants and more clubs.

All told, our experience at the Carlyle Suites Hotel was a pleasure, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

Stayed here between 4th and 7th September 2013. Contrary to what others have said, we found the price for the excellent accommodation to be very good, compared to alleged "superior" hotels in New York, that were way above this price. Staff very friendly and helpful on arrival and during our stay, particularly the Breakfast staff and the guys at the door, who were great for directions and the locations of excellent local restaurants and bars. We will return and have recommended the hotel to friends in the UK who are planning a short stay in DC. This has got to be one of the nicest and safest parts of DC to stay and wander in.

This hotel suite was a really great find. Spacious, comfortable and well located. The only downside was a poor quality wifi that kept dropping out. Lovely area, amongst embassies, tree-lined streets. Our deal was extremely reasonable for such good quality. Highly recommended.

The hotel offers suites which are large with a kitchenette and dining area. The DuPont area of Washington is a beautiful neighbourhood with tree lined streets which are safe to walk in even at night. The metro is about 6 minutes walk from the hotel and there are some restaurants within 5 minutes walk of the hotel. The big bus tour leaves from DuPont circle and the hotel will give you directions, this tour is a good way to get an over view of Washington DC.
The staff were helpful and friendly.

Room Tip: High floor corner rooms offer good views
