Sometimes you get lucky and stumble on some place really special. The Carlyle Suites, near Dupont Circle, is my piece of luck for hotels in Washington. Everything you could ask for: great furnishings and very comfortable bed, well equipped kitchen, large, sunny room, free and easily accessed internet, good work space, separated from nice eating arrangement, and very importantly, a superb staff. After this stay I can't see any reason to stay anywhere else.

Stayed here for a week whilst on business. The hotel is a fair walk from Dupont Circle. In the vicinity there are reasonable dining options and a supermarket one block away. Staff were courteous yet curt. Hotel offers laundry facilities which came in very useful. Very ordinary experience, nothing to rave about. Rooms are spacious with decent sized bathrooms.

The location, about an 8 minute walk to the DuPont Circle Red Metro Line was very convenient as it was only two stops to the metro station where one could switch to the orange and blue lines. It was within short walking distance to good restaurants in several directions and a small Safeway and a few small convenience stores. It was withing walking distance to the Phillips Art Collection, well worth viewing. The suite was spacious and quiet with cross ventilation and windows that opened. There were comfortable new mattresses , plenty of pillows, nice duvets and extra blankets,a pull- out sofa and a small closet. The kitchenette was small but functional and plenty of fluffy towels and toiletries.Breakfast was available in buffet form for $14.95 but it was too pricey for us. Only two negatives, no table to sit at but there was a desk we could use with two extra chairs for eating and the shower only had a half door which made things a bit wet in the shower. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful always with a smile and greeting. It was cherry blossom time, although they weren't quite out yet but that did not preclude the higher rates at this high season time. Definitely worth staying here.

Room Tip: Opt for the larger double suites, worth the slightly higher price for larger space and storage.

I was in Washington for a workshop that was held in this hotel. It is older, well taken care of, clean, good service, a blast from the past Art Deco, 25 minute walk to White House, close to subway...Rooms have small kitchens perfect for making breakfast....However the food at the hotel was excellent....I would stay again!

Stayed here for three nights with my teen daughter. Our room on the first floor had a kitchenette (sink, stove top, microwave, Keurig coffee maker) and sitting area. This room was perfect - it allowed us to purchase groceries around the corner at Safeway and cook our own breakfast and late night meals. Helped us save $! The Keurig coffee and tea is complimentary and the hotel had no problem in supplying us lots during our stay.

There is a vanity and small but very nice bathroom. No complaints.

The sitting area is great. We had local friends over and had a little party. Very nice and roomy room.

The desk staff was very helpful. Especially the evening staff (two African guys with a great sense of humor) who were very knowledgable about the city and told us how to get everywhere.

Just around the corner and down the street (about a 3 - 4 minute walk) are lots of restaurants (Mediterranean, Mc Donald's, Italian, Japanese and a Safeway). The train station is a few blocks away and you'll find coffee shops and other stores near the train.

The White House is only two stops away.

We stayed here for seven nights and really found nothing to fault. Our room was a good size with a kitchenette area, well equipped bathroom with vanity space attached, and a walk-in wardrobe with safe. Perhaps a little more drawer or shelf space for clothes would be nice but overall we had everything we needed. The bed was firm (which is my preference) and comfortable and we were not disturbed by any noise. The staff members were all charming and efficient. As many have noted the Dupont Circle location offers plenty of shopping and eating options with good accessibility to most of Washington. We booked the hotel as part of a combined flight/hotel package and thought it excellent value. We'd definitely stay here again.

My husband, my 8 year old daughter and I stayed at The Carlyle for 4 nights and while it was a lovely hotel in a lovely neighborhood, it wasn't the best fit for us.
We had a suite with a kitchenette and table and wish we had gotten the room with a sofa instead. The glass table was unstable and unusable anyway.

Pros:

The staff go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. Every staff member we encountered was extremely courteous and helpful and made us feel very welcome.

The location is hotel is beautiful and the location is beautiful. It is about a 3 block walk to the Dupont Metro (with the scariest escalator ever!) and Whole Foods, CVS, Starbucks, bakeries, etc are all very close by.
We used the metro for 2 days, but then decided to use a taxi after that. It was about $15 one way to the National Mall and our cab driver gave us a lovely tour and great descriptions of many of the beautiful buildings. If you have a little extra money, I definitely recommend getting a cab.

We drove to DC and found the valet parking very convenient. It is $40 a day and your car is parked behind the building.

We did not get drinks or food in the hotel, but it looked nice. The art deco styled hotel itself is quite charming.

The hotel beds are tempurpedic and they are so comfortable! I know tempurpedic is a love/hate thing, but we loved them and felt very well rested each morning.

The shower was nice and hot and had great pressure. They use eco friendly soap/shampoo and they were very nice.

Cons:

The room was smaller than I thought it would be. We had 2 queen beds and a kitchenette. The glass table is wobbly and I was scared to put even my coffee on it! We should have chosen the suite with the kitchenette and sofa. Compared to NYC, its really not a bad size, I just thought it would be slightly larger.

One of our 2 burners on the stove didn't work, which is kind of a big deal when you are trying to make spaghetti. I have a soy allergy and cant eat out easily, so a kitchenette is a life saver for me (quite literally).

Our room didn't feel super clean. The bathrooms could use a little bit of a deep cleaning and another towel hook would be a nice addition. There were some smudges on the bathroom door that looked pretty gross.

There is no luggage stand in the room so we had to rummage through our luggage on the floor.

I highly recommend the Carlyle to couples and business travelers. It is far beyond your standard hotel. For small families, it works, but my daughter was hoping for a pool and a larger room to play around in.
