“Great location, comfy stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2009

Stayed 4 nights in Nov 08 during election week. The first night we got stuck in a smoking room due to a huge youth convention and us arriving past 10pm to finally check in. I understand that all the other rooms may have been taken but felt disappointed that front desk didn't tell us during check-in to expect a room that was different than what we had reserved.

The next day our room was changed to a bright spacious quiet corner room, as requested in my reservation, with a view of the street just outside the hotel entrance. Nice sunny sitting area, functional granite kitchenette (bring your own pots and pans unless you're ok with rusty or scratched up ones), separate vanity area, and quality sheets were greatly appreciated. Our toddler had lots of space to play.

Internet worked fine. Just bring a cat 5.

Tried the in-house restaurant -- burger, steak, soup -- my most unfavorite meal of the trip. Service was so-so. Skip it and explore the numerous dining options all within walking distance.

Mustafa, the front desk staff person, is probably the most wonderful part of the hotel. He's friendly, helpful, and never rushed you to get to the person behind you. Thanks for making our stay a fabulous one, MUSTAFA!!!

The hotel is located in an upmarket area of Washington DC amongst large townhouses and embassies with only a short walk to numerous restaurants and shops on Duport Circle.
The hotel is art deco in design from the reception to the rooms. The room was spacious with kitchenette in the room I stayed in, along with a sizeable bathroom and shower. It was kept very clean.
The staff were very helpful and friendly.
If you are not a walker the subway into the centre at Dupont Circle will be helpful as it will take a good 20 minutes at a good walking pace to get to the Mall by Lincolns Memorial. Walking around the main sites there is very easy.
I would recommend the hotel and Washington DC to anyone wishing to discover the US.

We booked into the Carlyle Suites for a week vacation, and were extremely pleased. The walk from Dupont Circle was short and leafy, with interesting Embassies and Consulates. Check-in was pleasant, but our assigned room was on the first floor, not the "Quiet Room" we had requested when booking directly. We were instead given a lovely corner room on the fourth floor. The neighbors and garbage collectors were pretty noisy, but I can't blame the hotel for that. The room was very comfortable, clean, and in good repair. The Moroccan bartender and the Sunday Brunch were also great.
One thing were enjoyed most was the Dog Park a block north. We would sit there awhile every evening, watching about 25 dogs of all shapes and sizes cavort on the lawn; they would each come for a sniff and a pet and be on their way! Dupont Circle has many great spots (especially Kramer Books) for eating and drinking, and the Metro is simple to use. We'll be back to the Carlyle Suites and Washington as soon as possible

The hotel was NOT what it claimed to be. We were supposed to have "wonderful views" which was, um, were of radiators and brick. It was a big weekend planned way in advance for my Dad's 60th and that was a real disappointment. The bar and restaurant were lacking and it is an "old" referbished hotel. That said the tempurpedic beds were great and they were pet friendly. The hotel is in a nice historic part of the city but VERY far from any sightseeing.

Clean, unique (non-chain), in a beautiful neighborhood close to the metro. A great room with lots of amenities, especially for what I paid via the web. The free parking lot behind the hotel is very small- don't count on finding a space. There's a nice, reasonably priced garage just down the street, however. I would definitely return.

We stayed at the Carlyle Suites for four nights when we went to DC to help my son move to a new apartment. We loved this hotel and will return. The room was spacious and very clean. It had a small kitchen which was very convenient for fixing breakfast. It was in a great location, close to the Metro and to local restaurants. We actually walked to the downtown sites, but that may not be for everyone. We felt entirely safe and the walk was so interesting! The front desk staff were friendly and helpful as were the cleaning staff. The only issue here was it is not a great place to have a car. But then, you should not bring a car to Washington DC if you can help it. We were never able to find a spot in the free parking area behind the hotel which is very limited. However, my son got us a temporary pass from the police station to park on the street and that seemed to work.

I just spent 5 nights here with my six and a 9 year old girls. We used this as our hub to see many DC sights. The staff was helpful, curtious, and always had a smile. We felt so welcome. I would hightly recommend this hotel to anyone traveling as a family. We requested a quiet room and they gave us a corner suite with two double beds... the room was very large... and we did use the kitchen extensivley for saving some money on meals. A Safeway and a Whole Food's are blocks away... no need for a car ... Metro at Dupount Circle was also a few blocks away... Our trip was light...we only had small backpacks ...and found the laundry facilities on premise very useful. We will be back!
