The Kimpton properties tend to offer a reliable alternative to the large hotels, and if they cost a little more, it's generally worth it. I was here for most of a week on business. I relied on the Metro, with a stop a block away, to get to and from meetings. I also relied on cabs a couple times, and never had to wait more than a few minutes for one to arrive.

The Madera is a renovated older property that is comfortable, clean, and located within a block or so of Dupont Circle. The building itself is older, which shows in the slower elevator and in some other areas, but the rooms are well done, comfortable and clean.

The staff is consistently attentive and enthusiastic. The FireFly restaurant is on premises, and serves a very good menu. Overall, I can recommend the Madera for either business or leisure travel.

Pendrake, thank you for the review. I am excited to see that you are a loyal Kimpton Hotels fan. I am thrilled to know you wouled recommend the Hotel Madera and Firefly restaurant after your visit. Yes with the Metro station only a block away it does make it very convenient to travel the city. I am glad you dined in our Firefly restaurant. When you return, try the grilled cheese sandwich. It's delicious! Thanks and we will see you soon, Modi Ahmed General Manager

The Madera was exactly the kind of hotel I love - small, friendly, well located, & well appointed rooms. If all of the Kimptons are like this, I am sold on the brand. The staff at the Madera would be tough to beat, each one of them always went 'above and beyond' to ensure we were enjoying our visit to DC, and they honestly seemed to want to help. Bed was super comfy, room temp is individually controlled, and the goodies the chef puts out for guests were excellent - home made sangria - how often do you get that!? We will go back to DC just to stay at the Madera again!

I have stayed at Kimpton hotels before. In fact, I seek them out whenever I travel to major cities throughout the US. The staff is always accommodating, just as they were on this occasion. The room was very nice, tastefully decorated, and very spacious. The climate control was very good (hot summer days) and the bed was amazingly comfortable. The bathroom was a little smaller than I had expected and not as "modern" as I envisioned, but it was still very clean and functional. We did not have any noise issues at all. The wine reception was a little awkward as the lobby is small, but still enjoyable. We stayed on the 8th floor (I always request a room with a view) and I was able to see from the back side of the hotel, which overlooked the city to the Northwest. We ate at the connected restaurant called FIrefly and had a great meal. The staff was very friendly and the food was excellent. The parking is valet and reasonably priced for overnight parking in DC. If you leave the hotel and go to the right, then another right on M Street...a few miles down the road you will find many great shops and restaurants. The metro station is easily within walking distance as well so it is easy to get to the central part of DC. Like all Kimpton hotels, this one does not disappoint. It is not the newest, but it is still a great place to stay with a very friendly accommodating staff and all of the great little amenities that Kimpton hotels are known for.

I was so impressed with the Madera in Dupont Circle. The service was some of the best I've ever experienced. When I arrived the front desk was friendly, efficient and had high quality wine for all guests to enjoy in the lobby or to take back up to their room. The rooms are very large for a boutique hotel and for the downtown D.C. location. There is a bit of wear and tear on the furniture, but the room was clean and spacious. The bathroom products were very high end and the room service was outstanding. I especially appreciated the front desk staff and their attention to detail. I will certainly be staying a this hotel again.
