The Kimpton properties tend to offer a reliable alternative to the large hotels, and if they cost a little more, it's generally worth it. I was here for most of a week on business. I relied on the Metro, with a stop a block away, to get to and from meetings. I also relied on cabs a couple times, and never had to wait more than a few minutes for one to arrive.
The Madera is a renovated older property that is comfortable, clean, and located within a block or so of Dupont Circle. The building itself is older, which shows in the slower elevator and in some other areas, but the rooms are well done, comfortable and clean.
The staff is consistently attentive and enthusiastic. The FireFly restaurant is on premises, and serves a very good menu. Overall, I can recommend the Madera for either business or leisure travel.
