“Big Treats in Small Packages”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2012

We might never have discovered this gem had it not been for the week-long power outage that crippled so many households at our home base. Demand for air-conditioning and heat-rescue drove the prices of many hotels through our already damaged roofs, but not so here, and kudos to the Madera and the Kimpton group for its care and sensitivity. Many reviewer comments are accurate. Rooms tend to be on the small side, but they are certainly big enough to satisfy. They are well-appointed, comfortable, and if you travel with rechargeable necessities, like computers (we needed to transfer our work base), there are outlets galore - and they aren't hiding behind furniture or curtains. Hotel staff "apologized" for putting us at the "back" of the hotel, but our skyline surged over the Cathedral and Georgetown University. (Front rooms have small balconies but you have to be a bit masochistic to use them in DC summers. Even our dog runs inside as soon as he can.) Bathrooms are tight, but ours had its sink in an enclosure outside, leaving only the business end behind closed doors. The staff is fantastic, and the help that Aaron, Denise and Raymond offered - in service and sympathy toward its many weather refugees - was above and beyond. (When we finally got home, the hotel sent an email to check-up on our well-being.) The restaurant is a DC highlight, but its breakfast choices are not extensive. Like the rest of the hotel, they are more than good enough. They are priced competitively, but, since the hotel is at Dupont Circle, there are more than enough alternatives. In sum, if you want to spend some days with a new family, stay here.

Dear serioustraveler7612, it seems we have the summer power outage of 2012 to thank for bringing you to the Madera. Thank you summer storms! I am thrilled your visit, albeit under difficult circumstances, was made as comfortable and enjoyable by our Staff. Aaron, Denise, and Raymond truly go out of their way to ensure our Guests are happy. Thanks again and we hope to see you at the Hotel in better weather. ;) sincerely, Modi Ahmed General Manager

I've stayed at the Hotel Madera many times and never been disappointed. The staff--especially Michelle O.--is fabulous. Attentive, friendly and accommodating. The location is terrific--very close to Dupont Circle and Metro stop, but quiet neighborhood. Restaurant is excellent and late afternoon wine (complimentary) is a nice perk. Rooms are very clean and beautifully furnished. I highly recommend the Hotel Madera. Kudos to the staff for their excellent work!

We stayed at the Madera for 4 nights over the 4th of july. I loved the size of this hotel. Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was spacious and clean. Good water pressure for shower. Great location...Dupont Circle was very close with plenty of restaurant options close-by. Beds comfy. I saw plenty of pets with their owners in lobby and outside, but was never disturbed by them while in our room. I will stay at this hotel again.

We visited the Madera Hotel over the 4th of July week 2012 for pleasure. I was a little skeptical because they are pet friendly. However, we were pleasantly surprised at the cleanliness and lack of pet noises. The hotel is in a very good location, close to a Metro station and a little over a mile to Georgetown. The Madera website says they're 1 block to a Metro station, however, it's actually about 4-5 blocks, but still pretty close. The room size was very nice and the room and bathroom were well kept and clean. Be prepared for a hefty parking fee. We got a good rate on the room but paid for it with parking. When we stayed the rate was $41 per day. The personnel were very good, to be expected from Kimpton.

Room Tip: Be prepared for expensive parking and if you have a chance to pay a little more for a larger room it...

Dear Todd B, thanks for staying with us over Independence Day. Sorry that our website says we are a block away from the Metro. Normally we are but they are doing construction on that entrance, so yes the metro entrance is just a few blocks further. We'll fix that right away. In regards to our parking rate, it is comparable to other Hotels rates in the area, and we offer complimentary parking with some packages and for hybrid cars. Thanks for writing the review and we hope to see you again, Modi Ahmed General Manager

This was the last hotel I stayed on Washington DC - Leesburg journey.

We had 3 hotel choices for this leg and I quietly choose this because this of the #12 Trip Advisor rating and I was not disappointed at all.

The rooms are very nice and modern with a white and black walnut finish. The bed is comfortable and large, clean sheets, and an impressive headboard, 42 inch HD TV to crown it all, I am very particular about large TV, as I am short sighted and dislike wearing my glasses once I am indoors.

The hotel has Restaurant attached to it, but we were not able to experience it as we had other activities lined up.

I got a room on the 10th Floor, 1005, large windows, didn't get the view as it was facing the back but this was quiet, a friend got a front facing room on the 4th floor this facing the road.

Nice hotel, good place to stay. Recommended!!!

I stayed here for a week on business and felt very welcome. The room was large and comfortable, with a plush and elegant feel. I was initially assigned a room directly above the restaurant, but the staff were very responsive to my request to move and arranged to move all my things while I was out the next day so my new, quieter room was ready for when I returned.

Staff were almost always very pleasant and made me feel very welcome when passing through the small foyer (which does not really lend itself to any gatherings/meetings beyond an initial meet up). Overall, the standard of service was excellent.

Food at the hotel's Firefly restaurant, and room service, was generally very good, although prices could have been more reasonable.

The location is only a hundred metres from Du Pont Circle and the surrounding bars, restaurants and shops. It is within an easy walk of Georgetown (about 15 mins) and a little longer walk (about 25 mins) to the White House, Washington Monument, Smithsonians and memorials.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms directly above the restaurant. Rooms on higher floors and facing away from the street ar...
