Kimpton Hotels are a boutique hotel that we love. They are our favorite, favorite hotel chain and we are members of their loyalty club. This particular location is not equal to the other 6 locations that we have stayed in. We will continue to stay at Kimpton but won't be back to this location. The customer service was excellent as always.

I thoroughly enjoyed my recent stay at the Hotel Madera in Washington D.C. Very comfortable rooms in a quiet area of D.C. (but decently proximal to the metro). This is a smaller Kimpton hotel. One of the real perks of the hotel is the fantastic restaurant that it shares spaces with; in summer the windows that stretch across the front are opened to create a great indoor-outdoor environment.

It is in an older building and one of the most significant downsides is the ultra-slow elevators - I never failed to wait several minutes for a ride. The older building has some upgrades, but mostly looks its age and the hallways could use a bit of an update.

Very nice, friendly staff.

I'd give this one a solid 4.5 stars and would definitely consider coming back again.

Thanks BlueBear92! We are huge fans of our restaurant Firelfy as well! The best is dining there pretending you are in a forest. We also value our location just a two block walk to the metro. Our small size allows us to have one one one fun with our guests! We hope to have you back in the future!

We stayed at the Kimpton for our 20th Wedding Anniversary. I had corresponded previously with Kelly Little in advance who was giving us great advice on places to go, places to eat etc. We also dealt with Nicole Pleasant and Sue Schwartzberry whilst we were there and I have to say all three girls were fantastic and very helpful. We were given a room on the 10 floor overlooking New Hampshire Avenue which was fabulous. They give us some special gifts for our anniversary which was extremely thoughtful. The bathroom was a bit compact but we still managed no problem. Apart from that we had no complaints. We would highly recommend this to anyone to stay and indeed any Kimpton Hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room high up so you get a view

I've never met a Kimpton I didn't like, and this one was no exception. Hotel was in a perfect location. Lots of great restaurants. Close to the Metro. Great, helpful staff (as usual). Had a great stay at the Madera. Would have loved to stay longer but will have to wait until next time.

Room Tip: Had a room with a balcony, but probably didn't need it. I'm sure the regular room would have...

We arrived in Washington early, around noon, but they had our room ready for us. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. They printed several tickets, including boarding passes, for me during the stay. The hotel is about a block from the DuPont Circle Metro (subway) station. It is one mile from the White House. Sometimes we took the subway and sometimes we just walked. Very convenient. The room was large and had a large balcony. It had a king size bed and sofa. In the morning they had coffee and in the evening they had wine, all free. It is a little old and shows some wear, but the rooms do not seem old.

Room Tip: Pay the extra and get a balcony room. They face out toward the front of the hotel. Although there...

This property really should be a three-star based on its physical condition, but it rises to four-star level due to the terrifically friendly and helpful staff,as well as the good location near Dupont Circle.

The physical plant is frankly somewhat of a bummer. The tiny entrance is way too small, crowded, battered and scuffed. The design flair that one might expect from a Kimpton hotel is absent here, where even the walls are crying out for some artwork or decoration. The elevators are creaky and slow and have a musty smell.

Things perk up a little in the rooms (at first), which have bright and colorful body pillows adorning stylish platform beds, attractive furniture, and a wide balcony. But things unravel upon closer inspection. The beds are hard as a rock and uncomfortable. The balcony is sterile and institutional-looking, completely unadorned and weather-beaten. A bleak hallway leads to a teeny bath and toilet room -- one of the smallest I've ever seen. No closet doors here, just a drab curtain hides the closet. Everywhere there are the signs of hard wear-and-tear -- scuffed and chipped walls, water-mottled ceilings, rust stains running below rusty hinges. Even the hacked-up gray schmatte lining the safe fell out onto the floor. No fine products here -- just push dispensers on the bathroon wall.

Still, the service was wonderful. The knowledgeable and friendly front desk (thanks Kelly and Susan!) sent up thoughtful complementary snacks and drinks for us and offered us complementary continental breakfast as well. They also sent up an adorable bulge-eyed goldfish for our son, gave us great advice on restaurants, helped with reservations, etc., etc. Thanks too to Kelvin on the bell staff, who helped us get set up in our room.

All in all, excellent service lifts this fraying three-star property to four stars.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony.

Dear andrew l, than you so much for taking the time to write such a descriptive and extensive review of our hotel! You guys have really covered everything. I am really sorry that the physical parts of the hotel were sub-par to your previous Kimpton experiences, but it makes me so proud to hear that our staff helps make up for it! Thank you, too, for the shout outs to Kelly, Sue, and Kelvin. They really do a great job, don't they? Hopefully we will see you again soon, if not here then at the next Kimpton :) John Esainko, General Manager
