“Best View of July 4th fireworks - Great Service!”
Reviewed 7 July 2011

Hay Adams is a beautiful property with excellent service. We had a white house view suite that was huge and well appointed. Roof top view of the july 4th fireworks was great. Very pricey evening for a family with kids, but worth the experience. Wish they would have the top of the Hay rooftop open more - like for breakfast or cocktails. Shame to use such great space so rarely.

Left the car with the valet, checked in and got a pleasant surprise of an upgrade from regular room to a suite. I'm fine with a normal room, but suites are kind of nice :) Hotel staff was pleasantly attentive without being intrusive. Room was absolutely beautiful, one of the nicest i've ever seen. Ate at the restaurant, Lafayette Room, and that was very nice too. Only disappointment was in the entree. Had the tile fish special of the day, and i couldn't believe how bland it was.

We stayed for 3 nights late April. The hotel is a lovely old building and in a great position close to the White House and Lafayette Park. The staff at check in were very friendly and helpful. We were lucky enought to be upgraded to a room with a nice view of St John's Church. The room was reasonably sized with nice linen and toiletries etc. The bar down at the basement was a great place for a late night drink and snack. The main restauarant where we had breakfast was a beautifully furnished room with lovely chandeliers. The only complaint I had was the service for breakfast was quite slow. The waiters were lovely and food great but took a bit long from ordering to receiving meal. Overall, would recommend this hotel

This is one classy place and a unique DC experience. It is across the street from the church of the Presidents, you can see the White House from the dining room (and some of the more expensive rooms), and, if you like to walk, it is easy to walk to the monuments, the Smithsonian museums, the White House, etc. We had breakfast in the dining room every day because the waiters were so friendly, the room was so lovely, and the food was so good. The concierge was incredibly helpful. My girlfriend and I made plans to go only the day before and we had no idea where to go or what to do. The concierge gave us incredible itineraries and made reservations in some wonderful (and I later learned very well known and favorably reviewed) restaurants. We didn't want to pay much for a room, but what we got was clean, the beds and linens were four star, and it was quiet. However, it faced directly into an office building which might have been a problem if it hadn't been a weekend. For lots more money you can get some gorgeous rooms with amazing views. Given the location of the hotel, all of the rooms would be quiet.

This was my first trip to DC, but when I go back I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else. Thank you, Hay Adams!

Excited to take break and visit our capital. We were shown to our room only to open the drapes and find we were looking directly into an office building (zero view). The closest doors, which swung out, couldn't be opened all of the way - they stopped when they hit the bed. We had a desk was positioned between the beds which was just weird. It was supposed to alternate as night stands and a desk. Not realistic with two guests in the room. There wasn't any place in the bathroom to put a small toiletry bag. We immediately requested a different room and were told it would be an additional $100/night on top of the $500/night we had already paid if we wanted to move. Very disappointing to have a room like the one we had combined with a response like that from a hotel like this.

Best hotel I have ever stayed in. The hotel is located directly across Lafayette Park from the White House. Pay a little extra and secure either a view of the Park or the White House. Service was amazing. The concierge (we worked with Mark Dubois) was excellent. The food was delicious and the wait staff was excellent. The hotel is close to the Metro so you never need to walk far. My wife and I really enjoyed getting a drink from the Bar and walking across the street to Lafayette Park where we sat and gazed upon the White House and its visitors/protestors.

The Hays Adams is not inexpensive, and it caters to politicians and movers and shakers. So, our children were some of the few children staying in the hotel, but it did not seem to bother the hotel.

Room Tip: Pay extra for a view.
