Be wary of the negative reviews you read in this section. The Madison is a really nice hotel, with very helpful, professional staff, who will make every attempt to meet your needs. The location is very convenient and within walking distance to the National Mall and the White House, as well as coffee shops, restaurants and a CVS in the surrounding area.

We had the pleasure of staying the weekend of May 21st, and found everything to be more than acceptable. The room was very clean, contained a comfortable bed, more than enough space, and had the proper amount of in-room ammenities to make anyone's stay comfortable and enjoyable. A nice touch moment occurred when we inquired with the front desk about a good restaurant in the area, the individual quickly made a recommendation, phoned the restaurant, made the reservation, and when we arrived at the restaurant and were seated, the restaurant staff brought out 2 glasses of chanpagne, compliments of the Madison. It was very unexpected, but a nice touch nonetheless.

Is this hotel in the 5 Star class of the Ritz Carlton, Hays Adams, the Willard or the Four Seasons? No, but it a big improvement over your typical chain hotels like the Marriott or The Hilton. As one reviewer documented with a photo, yes the "Interior Courtyard" is nothing but four outdoor concrete walls with a massive air conditioning unit in the centre. However, if you are spending all your time locked in a hotel room starring out the window, you are doing something wrong in life.

If you are able to spend less than $350 a night at the Madison in a major city like Washington, you are doing well and should find the hotel more than meets your needs. If you are expecting 5 star quality for Super 8 Motel prices, then alas you will be sadly disappointed.

traveing back from florida we stayed two nights at the madison. from the moment we pulled up the staff was excellent. they remined me not to leave any valuables in my car- i had forgotten to take my garmen which i did! check-in was easy, i previewed my rooms and was pleasently surprised. walking back i mentioned we had been on vacation for ten days and explained all the bags out again... the bell man suggested we pack the bags we weren't going to use and they would check them untill we left, we took his suggestion and it was excellent as we didn't have to look at the bags hanging around in our rooms- that's customer service! we set out sight seeing and asked about restaurants in the areas we would be visiting, the staff was more than helpful- they suggested several and we were very pleased. when anyone at this hotel had contact with you they were excellent- never rushing your questions and very professional. i enjoyed everything about this short stay and would reccomend it to anyone traveling with children.

We arrived by car and took advantage of the valet parking. We were met by friendly staff and immediately informed that we had been given a free upgrade to a suite. The helpful porter showed us to our room which was huge and very modern. Staff were excellent throughout our stay and I would recommend staying here

My husband and I stayed here for four nights in May 2011. I was really worried reading some of the previous reviews, but found the hotel to be perfect for us. The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the room was spacious and clean and the location was convenient (three blocks to closest metro). We would definitely stay here again on our next trip to DC.

We stayed at the Madison Hotel from April 1-April 10 during the Cherry Blossom Festival. We found it to be a very good hotel for the rate we paid. The strike had settled the day before we arrived so we didn't see any evidence of it. The rooms were very nice, clean and well-maintained and the beds were extremely comfortable. The staff was nothing but gracious and helpful. We were missing some washcloths two days in a row but that was remedied very quickly with a phone call to housekeeping. We ate at the restaurant a few times and the food was delicious. The hotel is close to the White House and two metro stations. We would stay at the Madison again, for the right price, in the future.

My husband had a conference here and we split our stay between the Dupont Circle Hotel and The Madison. Coming from the Dupont Circle Hotel to the Madison, we were totally underwhelmed. The lobby was beautiful, as are the elevators and hallways. When we got to our room which was on the 3rd floor we were very disappointed. The room is a good size but there was nothing to it. The window which faced the street was filthy and had greasy forehead and finger marks all over it which remained there durring our entire stay. The comforter on the bed had black marks on it, and one of the closet doors wouldn't shut. The room was also at the end of a hallway and next to a utility closet and something in there was making loud bangs all day and night. Almost sounded like a generator. The absolute worst part was the bathroom. The walls were filthy and the wallpaper was peeling, there was touch up paint on some spots of the ceiling that were a different color than the ceiling was making it look dingy. There was also a vent over the shower where we could hear people conversations so loudly that you would think they were in the room with us... but the worst part of the entire stay was the shower! Our shower was broken and extremely hard to turn on! The lever was stripped and it would just turn and turn and not go on. Once it did, it was impossible to turn off. This got worse as our stay went on and our last day we couldn't even shower. We told the front desk when we checked out because I'm pretty sure it will be unusable of the next guest. The location is ok. Its pretty close to the White House but a walk to the metro. We would not stay here again. Totally not worth the money.
