Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill

This hotel was located very conveniently. Our room was upgraded to a capitol view which we could see the capitol, but it was hampered by a satellite dish. It was definitely a business hotel,. The rooms were clean. The staff was very helpful. We stayed for a week and had no issues.

Had four nights here after a family wedding, a short break before returning to the UK. This Hotel is situated within a very short walk of Capitol Hill and a pleasant stroll to other attractions. The staff are very friendly and the service is excellent, spending time pre dinner in the lobby and bar is very comfortable with leather chairs that seem to wrap around you, perfect after a day on your feet.
be prepared to walk some distance to see all the museums and monuments however there are alternative driver guided bus tours, we used the Washington old time tram car, three routes Orange takes a circular of all the museums (if your on a budget the Smithsonian Museums are free entry) the Green rout takes in old Georgetown and the Cathedral and the Red rout takes in the pentagon and Harlington Cemetery, All are hop - on - hop - off routs so you can easily plan your day.
Eating out, this is were the hotel let us down a little as we thought the menu's were a tad expensive, we didn't dine in so it would be unfair to comment further although we did have a bar meal on our final night and that was excellent. There are plenty of eateries to explore but its worth mentioning here not to over look the Union Station, the main railway terminal for the city, this is literally a short walk behind the hotel and has much to offer in retail shopping and fine dining its like a Mall within a station! we used the central cafe for breakfast twice as the food was so good and also dined at the Thunder Grill, again a very good meal. other eateries we can suggest are Ollies trolly, a lovely little diner stuffed with interesting antiques of interest, The Elephant and Castle again a great meal and of course you can't visit the USA without going to the Hard Rock Cafe great beer and food. Unfortunately I have to mention here Kelly's Irish Times, a bar to avoid this was by far the worst meal I have had in all my travels but see for yourself it may have been an off day for them!!

As I said before we only had 4 and a bit days but managed to cram so much in, National air and space museum, American Indian Museum, National Archives, Natural History Museum, botanical gardens, all free then we also visited the Crime and punishment Museum and Madam Tusauds wax museum ($12.00 off if you book both together) but its a must to leave time to visit Capitol Hill, the Mall and Washington Monument and if nothing else the world war two memorial along with the reflecting Pool (my reading glasses are still in there!) and Lincoln Memorial. The Washington Court Hotel is perfectly situated for all the above.
Flights, we found a great service in Brussels airways, great value and only a short hop over the channel from Manchester before joining the Washington flight both provided by Brussels Airline and only one connection, the bonus was that it was a direct flight back from Washington Dulles airport at 6hrs 40.mins, brilliant.
One final word of warning, the city has its fair share of beggars, we saw people giving them money and we gave some but beware when you give money out as if one see's you then they all come a running also when eating outside take a table away from the usual fenced of perimeter for the restaurant you are eating at as we were caught out a couple of times with beggars coming up to the perimeter and asking for change whilst we were eating and the staff and owners do not intervene but the beggars are not allowed to come inside the perimeter so sitting further in works. Final final thing, there's a wal
lmart only two blocks up from the hotel and they sell everything, including reading glasses!
Have fun.

Room Tip: 16th floor is the top floor great views and speedy lifts

Top, central location for the traveller (no need for a car) as it's within a few minutes walking of the main train station, subway, Capitol Hil and many great restaurants and bars. We explored Washington on foot from this location quite easily, visiting all the "must sees" only using the subway twice to return from Arlington and the Lincoln Memorial on two separate explorations. Situated in a nice area with a magnificent view of Capitol Hill, we were impressed with everything about this hotel, from it's grand foyer & atrium to the efficient and friendly service of the staff. We (couple & adult child) had a deluxe double room facing inwards to the atrium and it was excellent: comfortable, quiet, spacious and clean. Free wifi in the foyer was a nice touch. Stayed 4 nights & then travelled by train to New York. Recommended for solo, couples, adult families and for business as it caters extremely well for each group.

Two rooms were reserved. My mother and niece occupied a room and were bitten by some sort of unidentified insect. My room was partially cleaned everyday. The maid left empty soda cans in the room and garbage that was placed at the door.Breakfast food was not good, so we had to go out for meals.

Room Tip: Specify your needs before purchase. Bring bug spray

First of all, it is right by Union Station so it is an easy two block walk. The hotel is quite attractive with good front desk people who are most accommodating.

Rooms are spacious and well appointed. The restaurant is very good.

More importantly, it is near to everything, all within walking distance. Depending on when you go, you can pick up extremely favorable rates. Our foursome did and we paid well below what many others pay for hotels not even as nice or near to the Capitol.

If I return to D.C., I would certainly stay here.

Room Tip: Go for a high floor and facing the Capitol.

I have no problems with this hotel. My only suggestion is that if you don't have a room with a view, ask for an inner room facing what they call a courtyard, as the hotel is one block away from a VERY busy fire station.

How nice to walk from the train along the capitol park to one's hotel. The staff is alert and gracious from the door to the desk. While we did not dine there, the bar provided good mixed drinks at moderate prices. The room had a comfortable bed and nicely appointed bath. While we had a room with a view of the lobby and not the capitol, the natural light was good. The public areas have a more intimate feel than the larger hotels, and the staff (often offering advice on local transportation and sites) remembers their guests. The hotel is in easy walking distance of several good restaurants, bars, and a coffee shop.

Room Tip: If you wish a room with a view of the capitol, ask for one. Our room was discounted (AmTrak) and so...
