Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill

I found this hotel on Tripadvisor and Amtrak hotel recommendations. We were pleased with our stay. It's more of a businessman/woman oriented hotel (no pool, mini fridges, or complimentary coffee), but was good for a couples quick weekend trip to DC. We took the Amtrak train to DC and this hotel is just a short couple of blocks walk from Union Station. It's definitely removed from the hubub of DC nightlife, but that was fine for us, we didn't go for the nightlife. It's very close to the Capitol, which was the area in DC we intended to sightsee. We would definitely stay there again for a quick weekend in DC.

On our family vacation to Washington DC we booked our stay for four nights and we were greeted by very helpful and friendly staff. Everyone at the front counter was extremely helpful and valet guys would hold open the door everytime when entering or exiting the hotel. The Concierge ordered us a town car ride to a dinner cruise. Only downsides are, no refrigerator or free wifi in the room, and lobby wifi was only free for 30 minutes a day.

Our last visit to DC area, stayed 7 days at Washington Court. Every morning, we had a lovely view of the Capital. The hotel is in very close proximity to the transportation for bus, train or cabs throughout the area. Our room was pleasant, large and very comfortable. The staff was always very nice and helpful. We recommend the hotel for its convenience and comfort.

Room Tip: get a room with a view of the capital

This hotel lobby is the 80's brass and glass type with no fewer than 3 types of granite of different colors. The upstairs hallways are dark and dingy with holes in the wallpaper from where things have been removed.

On the bright side, the rooms are quite large, and mine facing the courtyard was quiet. The rooms have been updated with new carpet, new linens, new furniture. Clean, sleek design.

Now, if they will just do the rest of the hotel up to that standard, the rating would be much higher.

Lovely bar, friendly people, good food. Check in service was lovely, The hotel is certainly old but well maintained and updated. Door service and secure. Nearby tons of attractions.

My only complaint is that WiFi is not free. Would stay here monthly for business if the WiFi was free.

Room Tip: Go higher floors for views

I stayed at the Washington Court Hotel for 3 nights for a weekend in DC with my boyfriend in February. We lucked out BIG TIME with what has to be one of the best rooms with a view of the Capitol on floor 16. I can't remember the exact room number but the view was front and center and absolutely beautiful during both the day and night. If looking for a view of the Capitol and to be away from any noise, request the 16th (top most) floor. Although the view was amazing, the room was not. I am not one to look for every flaw I can possibly find in a hotel room but this room was a little dated for sure. The blanket on the foot of the bed had holes and stains on it while the edges and corners of the room were dusty with hair and scuzz from those who have stayed there in the past. The most disgusting finding was someone else's clipped nails/toe nails? on the floor by the foot of the bed...GROSS! The bathroom was definitely the nicest part about the entire room other than the view but the room itself didn't seem to be all that clean. Another negative was the sharp piece of jagged plastic sticking out from the side of the bed closest to the window. My boyfriend bumped into this with his leg and luckily was not injured but it's definitely a hazard. Those who worked in the hotel were very nice and accommodating and the bar was a comfortable area to just relax and have a drink or two. WI-FI was only free in the lobby but it was an additional charge in-room. Overall, our stay was pleasant and comfortable and the hotel was within walking distance to most everything (Union Station, Museums, Attractions & Restaurants). I'd recommend this hotel to those who plan on spending most of their time outside of the hotel sightseeing & those who are getting to DC via Union Station/Amtrak, etc because it's most appealing feature, overall is its location.

Room Tip: Request the 16th floor for a great view of the Capitol building! The top most floor

So easy to get to from Union Station -- and beautiful views from the top floor. BUT -- the hotel rooms are SUPER OLD and OUT OF DATE and the air conditioning was not working. I had the engineer come up to my room -- but it did not help. I went to the front desk the next morning to inform them that my night was uncomfortable and hot -- and my bill was promptly reduced by about 50%.
