“Willard is one of the best Intercontinental Hotels--but room service was not very good”
Reviewed 31 May 2014

AC was great. Internet was great. The service was excellent, though the guy who calls the taxi pushes pretty hard for a tip...sort of a pain...the room service has a seriously limited menu, and like every Intercontinental i have ever stayed in, the room service tastes, old, tired and rubbery...The hotel is a bit tired though my room had recently been re-done. There is not a huge amount of privacy as you have to walk past the Taxi guy, then a doorman, then the bell station to get into the elevator--

Amazing hotel, steeped in history, phenomenally well located for visiting DC. And quite possibly the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. When we got this on hotwire it was like winning the lottery. I'd happily go back paying full price.

Stayed one night for a business meeting. Also had used their conference services to host a small 20 person meeting, including food.

Pluses:
1) Conference services--event planner and food servers were all very helpful and friendly; facilities were all up to expectations. Food was surprisingly good for hotel conference facility.
2) Location--hotel has a wonderful history that reflects the story of the city. There is a small museum at the back of the main level that one should spend a few minutes to see if one stays here, highlights how many US Presidents have been here.

Negatives:
1) For an Intercontinental property, it is a little worn compared to what I have experienced. True, the chain website does note that this is a historic property, but for the price one pays for a room here, I expected more resources to be spent to upgrade items like the bathroom.
2) Room noise--being an older room, the sound insulation is not that great. If one is not used to sleeping in a metropolitan hotel, traffic noise can be annoying. I compared my experience with that of a brand new hotel located right next to the runway of a major European airport--the glass was bulletproof and the wall sound insulation so thick I could barely hear the aircraft depart just a few hundred feet away.

Summary: wonderful service for business meeting; wonderful history, but would hesitate to stay here for holiday

Room Tip: request upper floor

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Willard InterContinental and for sharing your feedback. I am happy that you were impressed with the food presented during your meeting. The Willard is one of the top 25 historic buildings in Washington, D.C. We are constantly investing in ways to keep the hotel up to date with the times but also maintain its historical character. We do have a beautiful courtyard which has very quiet rooms and others with views of the buzz of Washington. We do hope to welcome you back to The Willard in the near future whether it’s for business or pleasure.

Sincerely,

Patrick Birchall

We stayed at The WIllard for a wedding in the DC area. The location is excellent for sightseeing. Down the street from the White House and the National Mall...the kids loved it!

The front desk was extremely friendly and helpful as werre the valets.

The rooms were very comfortable and well-appointed.

We only stayed over one night, but our experience from the bellmen, valets, check in, and the housekeeping staff were all excellent. The buffet breakfast in Cafe du Parc is the best I've experienced---worth the price. We are hoping to plan another (longer) stay later this year. Thank you to the awesome staff at the Willard.

Room Tip: I'd upgrade to the Willard room if it's offered

One of the best experiences I've had in the Intercontinental hotel brand. Great location, I mean great!!! Excellent service and attention of all employees, great room cleanliness, huge spaces, spectacular views, 2 bathrooms, comfortable beds and everything one can order and need in this city

Also close to all buildings and landmarks such as the White House (less than 100 meters) and Ford's theater.

Room Tip: Corner suits are larger. The two restaurants have some nice terraces and spectacular service, worth...

This was my first stay at The Willard and I loved it so much that it will now be my go-to hotel anytime I am traveling to DC.
It is located right by the White House and within easy walking distance of all the DC memorials, monuments, museums, Verizon Center, and the Convention Center. The hotel itself is exquisite -- all the history and lore you'd expect with a property in service for so long, yet all the luxury and refinement of a first class modern hotel. Every staff person I encountered was friendly and helpful. Even the building engineering manager (Patrick) introduced himself in passing and asked if he could be of any help. Joshua at the Front Desk went out of his way to accommodate our special requests. Be sure to check out the unique Round Robin Bar, and dine outdoors at Cafe du Parc. My schedule did not allow it this time, but next time I intend to try the Afternoon Tea served in Peacock Alley.
