We just stayed at this hotel the weekend of the Women's March, and for the most part, the hotel is a fantastic place. The hotel staff is friendly, and the service staff is also very nice and hospitable. Check-in was quick, and the staff quickly helped us get accommodated. We asked for our rooms to be ready earlier, and they obliged.Due to the shutdown, we were not able to visit the museums we would typically visit, however there were several other options that were also memorable. The location is perfect if you want to be near the White House and it's just a few blocks away from the Women's National Museum of the Arts, as well as the United States Holocaust Museum - both open. The location is also not too far from the National Mall, so there are plenty of monuments to visit such as the Lincoln Memorial, not impacted by the shutdown. If you are looking for modern decor and loud thumping background music, this not your hotel. If you are looking for elegantly designed and decorated rooms, a beautiful grand lobby and classical music playing everywhere... you will love this place. They host Afternoon Tea in an area called Peacock Alley with live harp music, organic teas and finger sandwiches on the weekends from 1p to 4pm, but it will cost you anywhere from $68 to 75, depending on whether you drink champagne, and that doesn't include the service charge or taxes. Kids under 12 can eat for $30. Under 5 is free. Small snafu during the check-out process but other than that, it was a great stay. The hotel is expensive so yes, you will pay $8+ for a can of Coca-Cola, and you can expect similar pricing for items that cost half anywhere else. But it's a nice hotel experience and the location being near many landmarks, as well as near the metro makes it a good choice.
