“Ugly, Unhip, and Overpriced”
Reviewed 17 November 2013

This is literally the ugliest hotel I have ever seen. It combines all the worst elements of 60s/70s architecture. When we arrived, the room wasn't available. No offer of 'free drinks while you wait' or anything. I did overhear one of the 'members' getting an identical room, right away, in the next lane, though. So, if you like being treated like a second-class citizen, this may be the place for you. Then we bought the overpriced wifi only to find out they charge per device - we had to buy it separately for each of our laptops and pay double. Then some random hotel staff person tapped on the door and immediately barged in without waiting to 'see if the room was okay.' Well, it's small, smells funny, the lamp shade has a stain on it, and some of the upholstery is literally coming apart at the seams, soooooo - it's crap, actually, thanks for asking. Exactly what you would expect from a hotel owned by the family that gave the world Paris Hilton. I will not stay in a hilton hotel again.

Room Tip: Get a room at another hotel.

Sheets were clean, bathroom was clean. Not a huge room, we had a suite which was nice because we could spread out into the next room with a couch and extra bathroom. Annoying that so many things cost extra, parking, wi-fi etc. Gym shower room was clean and large. Never used the outdoor pool. Big hotel, went for an event. Front desk person that we got was very nice and accommodating. The continental breakfast served in the room on the 10th floor was only so-so.

We were given four nights in this hotel by our son to celebrate a wedding anniversary, and we were not disappointed ! From the moment we checked in to the time we checked out, everything was first class. We were given an upgrade to the 9th floor with a great view over the front lawns and garden, and two king size beds. A bottle of red wine and a plate of chocolate covered strawberries with a personal, hand written note of welcome from Erica Holmes completed the picture. We could not fault the hotel or its' staff and thoroughly recommend it to any visitor.
The hotel is a short walk from Du Pont Circle metro station which gives easy access to central Washington and all its attractions. A good idea is to buy a Metro card at Metro Central loaded with as much money as you think you will need on your travels. Start with $10 and top it up as necessary. It's far easier than queuing up and fumbling for loose change. You are spoilt for choice with restaurants, there are loads in the area. Especially recommended is Ruth Chris Steakhouse, ask for Gene.

Room Tip: Try for a front facing room. Great for people watching.

Depend on this property to greet you warmly, process your check-in and departure efficiently, and take excellent care of you in the Executive Lounge. The Hilton Washington is my number one hotel when I am in DC for business and pleasure. My family really likes this hotel and staff.

I read previous reviews before my visit to the Washington Hilton. Please understand that I always read Trip Advisor and don't mind some of the hotels with negative reviews. I think that some people are never satisfied. In this case, the reviewers who said the walls were thin were not exaggerating. It was very noisy- people talking (just talking not yelling), toilets flushing, alarms/snooze alarms, etc. It was difficult to sleep. Additionally the fan for the heat in the room was very loud. On the plus side- the bedding and towels were clean despite some of the reviewers comments. I did not see any problem with the cleanliness of the room. So I guess if I had to choose between dirty and loud- I am glad it was loud.

The hotel is situated in an upmarket area with lots of bars and restaurants close by. A number of conferences were taking place at the hotel when we were there but there was no queuing for any of the facilities. Our room was large with two double beds, lovely bedding and a great coffee making machine. The hotel staff was knowledgeable and very customer friendly.

A tour bus which takes you to all the memorials and landmaps stops immediately outside the hotel. The only thing missing is an indoor pool (outdoor pool only) and if this was added, the hotel could easily be classed as five star.

I was there the first weekend in December for a work Conference. We were down in the basement conference center rooms. They were very nicely kept and spacious.

What I loved from the Hilton was there catering. We were Spoiled with delicious meals, snacks, and treats! You could see many of the attendees anxiously looking at their watch, waiting for the speaker to finish, just so they could jump up and see what unique food awaited us. There was not a dish they served that wasn't wonderful.

My only complaint is that the bathroom sinks NEVER had warm water. It was like washing your hands in an icebox the whole time.
