Review of Cranberry River

Reviewed 20 February 2017 via mobile

We drove here today to do some trout fishing. Such a beautiful place. Lots of places to camp out but no electricity for a camper, no showers and no cell phone service. There's some outside restrooms. There's a very long trail that you can ride bikes on or just go for a walk. We saw lots of trout but nothing would bite.

My son and I just camped this past weekend (10/17/2014) at the Cranberry Campground. We tent camped for $10 per night. This campground was really primitive with no electrical hook-ups or running water. They did have a couple of old-school manual hand pumps to pump water for yourself. They accept cash or check stuffed in an envelope for your individual camp site. There were 2 pit toilets for public that smelled really rank. Most people there were in campers with generators running. No shower facility either.

The campsites were nice with a picnic table and fire ring. We brought our own firewood but there was plenty of wood nearby in the woods that was down and could have been cut. We were there to trout fish the Cranberry river as were most people in the campground. You can hike back the one-lane gravel road or mountain bike. The gravel road is 16 miles long and winds along the Cranberry River. You can camp anywhere within the Monongahela National Forrest if you don't want to stay in the campground. The beauty of the river was just stunning. We happened to be there during peak color for the leaves. This was not conducive to very good fishing. We didn't talk to anyone who had caught fish either.

We had a great time. Be prepared that there is no cell service at all in the campground.
