“Southern Hospitality at its best”
Reviewed 27 January 2014

We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend stay at the Hotel at Auburn University. The hotel is conveniently located - everything we wanted to see in town was within walking distance. The staff was very attentive, gracious, and professional. The hotel itself is very attractive and the room was quite comfortable. We had a great view of Samford Tower and enjoyed looking at all the old photos (located throughout the hotel) of the town and university campus. The hotel staff went out of their way to make sure our visit (birthday celebration for an Auburn grad) was even more special, which we greatly appreciated. We did not eat in the restaurant but did grab coffee and some hearty muffins from the café for breakfast and we thoroughly enjoyed our cocktails while listening to some great jazz in the Piccolo lounge one evening. Hands down, this is the best place to stay if you are visiting Auburn!

This hotel is nestled right in the heart of the town making it very convenient to walk to the University and local shops. Very clean and upscale atmosphere. The bar & restaurant is exceptional. Food quality was far beyond what I expected, great variety and prices. The staff possesses all the Southern Charm and professionalism that you could ask for from and would expect from a five star property! Huge shower and beautifully appointed clean rooms. The lobby really provided a nice visiting area to relax. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Book rooms in advance during football season and other campus activities.

We are certainly honored to be located on the campus of Auburn University, which makes us a popular venue for visitors to the city and university. In addition to our beautifully appointed guestrooms, we are lucky to have a top notch restaurant and bar, all staffed by AU students, and led by a dedicated group of hospitality professionals. Great location, nice rooms, great speed on the free internet. Fabulous location. Breakfast is a bit expensive. Lobby is cramped so it is not conducive to visiting with other guests. The front desk staff was very helpful.

I'd stay again.

Impressive hotel in a great college town. Friendly check-in and great service. Comfortable lobby with plenty of seating and coffee bar.
Rooms are clean and well appointed. Large shower with rain head.
Breakfast buffet is very good. Yogurt with fruit in mason jars a nice touch. $14.50 for adults and $6.50 for 12 and under.
Walking distance to restaurants and bars downtown.
Highly recommend and will stay here again.

My daughter, granddaughter and I have attended the past three years. This year was great! They have made some changes that we really enjoyed. The food was served in "courses" and was age appropriate and delicious. The theater students that played the bear and the elf were fun and engaging. The stage was a nice addition too and the kids were enjoying dancing with the beat. Next year we are bringing little brothers too. Good job with the tea. We will keep coming as long as we have little ones.

I cannot say enough warm and positive things about my experience at The Hotel at Auburn University. It couldn't have been more pleasant. The staff were gracious and accommodating and the surrounding warm and festive. I was there for my daughter's graduation just before Christmas. My only criticism would be to invest a little more time with staff training. But there no glitches. I would stay there again.

First, when the clerk at the front desk is wearing a scarf, you know there are climate issues in the hotel. And you better bring your down coat to wear in the elevator, as it could double as a refrigerator. In all seriousness, I am astounded that anyone could give this hotel an excellent rating. The HVAC system in the room had no thermostat, which meant you would go from sweating to freezing. For a hotel of this supposed caliber, this is the type of system you would find in a low budget hotel. The rooms were very small, the furniture dated and worn out, and if you were on the toilet, there wasn't enough room to close the door. There also was no battery in the smoke detector which would not have been appreciated by the Fire Marshall, I'm sure. The only positive was the location in the heart of Auburn, right across from the University. This hotel is in need of a MAJOR renovation and until such time there are better options in the area.

Dear Jerry F:

Thank you for being our guest at The Hotel at Auburn University during your visit to Auburn and for sharing your feedback with us.

I would like to apologize to you for the coldness of our lobby during your stay. The record cold temperatures, coupled with a full hotel due to the BCS Championship meant that the lobby doors were being opened almost continually all day, making it very difficult for the heating system to keep the lobby comfortably warm. All of our in-room HVAC systems are controlled by a digital thermostat located outside the bathroom door, and I do apologize that you had trouble getting it to operate properly to keep your room at a comfortable temperature. Should you ever have any issues with the mechanics of your guestroom, please don't ever hesitate to contact our Reception Desk and they will happily assist you with getting the issue fixed.

All of the smoke detectors in the hotel are hard-wired, and do not operate via batteries. The battery compartment that is empty is for optional battery back up; during the renovation of our guestrooms in 2008, all fire safety equipment in the hotel was moved to diesel generator backup to ensure that they operate without fail.

Again, I do apologize for the issues that you had during your stay with us, and I do hope that if your travels bring you back to Auburn, you might give us a second opportunity to show you why we are one of the top rated hotels in the state of Alabama.

David Merryman
