“Good for a Modest Hike”

Silly Mountain Park
Attraction details
Reviewed 16 April 2014

The park has some labeled vegetation that can be viewed from a paved path. The real attraction is the hike to the top of the "mountain", actually a quite high hill. It is an easy to moderate climb that anyone in average condition can do. At the top, one can look over the entire Phoenix valley. Downtown Phoenix is about 30-40 miles distant.

Take a hike up Silly Mountain and see the Superstitions and the desert from a new angle. There is plenty of parking at the base off the highway (60), and trails with signs telling about the area head upwards. It is a gravel trail, and poles would be useful for those who need balance assistance, especially going downhill. It is a moderate hike for those who are "weekend walkers", but a great place for youngsters to wear off some energy. Take water with you, as it is the desert, and sunscreen if you are in the hotter part of the day. It takes about an hour roundtrip and the views are worth it!

Just right, not too easy, not too tough. Go early in the day before it gets too hot. Take a water bottle and a walking stick and have a nice adventure.

Love this park, easy to climb and we did get to the tip of the little "mountain" and could see forever. Easy walking but make sure and grab a map as we did get lost for quite a while and saw no one, knew when we saw the Far East fence and homes we had taken a wrong turn. TAKE WATER WITH YOU.

We enjoyed this hike with our kids 11, 10, 8, and 6). We took the Superstition View and Old Baldy trails. Some of the trails are a little confusing, so we got off the trail a bit, but we figured it out. It was our hardest hike of the week (but it wasn't too difficult).
