We stayed here in early June this year and really enjoyed it. It is an older hotel but they are doing a good job of keeping it up. The bed was very conformable, the bathroom was not all that modern but clean and large but the deck, ah the deck. The view was wonderful. We spend 3 hours one day just sitting watching the deer, osprey, hawks, wales, humming birds, and the water. Get a good bottle of wine and some cheese and just enjoy. We also choose to eat dinner there both nights because we were to tired to find something else and I'm glad we did. The first night we tried gourmet and the next we decided for the hamburger. Well that burger was the best ever, go figure!! The breakfast if large and very good. We will go back!!

Ditto on the great views, food & service, but despite a plethora of wineries in the vicinity, the wine list and by-glass is pitiable. The half bottle chardonnay you get as a welcome is so old that it's almost vinegar. Also, there's great coffee roasters in the area, but the single one-cup prepackaged coffee for the little in-room maker is less than desirable. The store across the river has everything if you don't pack it yourself.

We have been going to Mendocino every Memorial Day Weekend for over 30 years and have settled down finally at the Albion River Inn for the past 11. What be wrong with gracious staff, full a la carte complimentary breakfast, breathtaking views of the crashing Northern California coastline, spa tub for two, free wi-fi and.........a fireplace. We'll be back next year.

Room Tip: Pictures of very cottages are online. If you want to be posh, you want #1, #17, #18, #19 or #20. Tho...

Back to Albion River Inn for a quick overnight decompression from too much work. Our happy place -- ARI -- never dsppoints. We love the plush rooms and amenities and so appreciate the courtesy and consideration for the guests. Rarely a two-nite minimum and checkout isn't until noon (you'd be amazed at how many are 11 am). Included breakfast is a very nice touch though I must say that I miss the former excellence of the restaurant. Too much heavy heavy food with two many trying too hard combinations. Simpler food finely executed would be a welcome change, but there are so many excellent places to dine that it doesn't even detract from my well-deserved 5 star review. Worth the money and the drive from San Francisco every time(especially rooms 5 and 17!)

This was our second stay ar the ARI. We first stayed about eight years ago and we remembered it as just super! Great food and wonderful atmosphere. Well, this time the food was still wonderful and the atmosphere was still great - no foghorns this time, but the service has slipped a lot.

The restaurant staff and service are not nearly as crisp as one would expect for this level of cost and ambiance. While we enjoyed our meals - breakfast and lunch all three days and nights of our stay (since we didn't want to drive those roads with any wine in our systems...). The service was slow and, we thought, perfunctory. There was one lady server who was really very good the first night, but after that it was all downhill.

The rooms are, indeed, rustic and that, to us, is the charm of the place. That and the fireplace and the deck for views - it all comes together. Unfortunately, the maid service fell down in that there were no glasses on our last day. Since it was late when we retired and discovered the oversight, we did not call the front desk (which closes at 8:30 PM), so we used coffee cups - hey, whatever works.

Would we return? Probably, but next time we will check out other nearby inns and B&B's a lot more closely to see if we should try something new.

Room Tip: We like No. 13 - close to the restuarant and a great fireplace and porch views.

This was our first stay at the Albion River Inn, and we plan to return for many more stays in the future. We stayed in cabin 5, one of the stand alone cottages, and we loved it. The floor to ceiling window provides an amazing view of the Pacific ocean. The cottage itself is spacious with a king bed, comfortable arm chairs, and a luxurious bathroom. My favorite parts of the cottage were the huge jacuzzi tub overlooking the Pacific coastline and the wood fireplace. Despite being old, the cottage itself was extremely clean and came with all the amenities you could ask for (free wireless internet, extra towels, matches for fireplace, etc.) In addition, the cottage is very private - we couldn't hear or see our neighbors.

Dinner was also very good. The prices are reasonable for a hotel, and the dining room is very romantic and intimate. The service was fantastic, and the seafood dishes were quite delicious. For breakfast, we had the option to select from about five different dishes. We had a great view of the coastline from the dining room.

Overall, we loved this hotel - excellent service and immaculate, spacious rooms with fantastic views that also offer privacy. It's a wonderful hotel away from the city that offers relaxation. They also offer great deals during the week. We highly recommend this hotel for those looking to unwind for the weekend.

Room Tip: All the rooms offer privacy, but I really liked staying in the stand alone cottage.

We just spent two nights at the lovely Albion River Inn. This was our sixth visit and our third stay in #17 Captain Richardson's Cottage. This is a spacious suite of rooms - bedroom/sitting area and a luxurious bath with a huge jacuzzi tub for two whose window looks out on Albion Cove and the Pacific Ocean. Quality items fill the amenity basket and comfortable robes await you. The staff has a fire ready to be lit in the wood-burning fireplace when you desire. Wine and chocolates await you in the sitting area. A delicious full breakfast of your choosing is included with the room. The restaurant is only open for guests staying at the Inn for breakfast. Staff is very accommodating and helpful. There is no TV and poor telephone reception, but WIFI is available. Personally, I loved being out of reach for two very peaceful days.

Room Tip: We like #17 and #5
