“Number 2 in area”

Great location... wait for a window. Service was mixed... at the door poor... at the bar nice and at the table very good. Food was excellent... start to finish w/ nice touches throughout. Incredible wine list w/ lots of local choices and willingness to let you taste to see if a selection works. Had duckling... was the best I've ever had... presented and prepared perfectly... as 4 filets tilted into a garnish w/ lots of tastes. Salad and soup and appetizers worked. Dessert was nicely done... a little off the beaten path alongside old fav's.

Sat evening was crowded... and the window seat as the savior.

Beats Ledford House and Cafe Beaujolais... but not La Petite Rive.

“Excellent dinner”
Reviewed 18 July 2008

We just completed an excellent dinner here -- great food, service, and views. The soup and salads we had were tasty. The Halibut was prepared very well, with an interesting sauce, vegetables, and rice. My wife's unusual potato pancake entree was quite good with roasted vegetables. Very large wine list, live piano music and very good dessert options rounded out a very nice evening. We're thinking of going back again on this same trip.

“Not Much Else”
Reviewed 2 November 2005

Excellent view from this restaurant if you get a table by the windows. The food was better than average but a bit pricey. the service was excellent. We found the wine list a bit limiting and the $20 corkage fee excessive. (we brought our own bottle anyway). We went into town the next day and had a better experience.

I reserved a table for a group of couples to celebrated a birthday weeks before arriving. However, when we arrived, the staff seemed unorganized and uninterested. They threw a table together at the last minute and put us next to the kitchen. My concerns were ignored. The meal was average. Try the restaurants in Mendocino. All were better than this one.

“Perfect dining expeience!”
Reviewed 14 May 2005

Wow! This is an outstanding restaurant! The view is absolutely spectacular (picture attached). The service was very gracious. The food was delicious and beautifully presented. I had duck and it was the best duck I ever ate. Prices are reasonable...around $20 per entree. Dress is nice casual. It's just a 5-10 minute drive from Mendocino. The restaurant was filled by 7:30 on a Tuesday night in mid May, so reservations are advisable if you want to go on a weekend or in the summer. But, don't miss this restaurant if you are in the area!
