We have stayed here twice with our family. Each time, we had to wait in a looooong line at check in (about 45 minutes last time) with our luggage and two tired kids in tow. Both times, we have checked in after the "check in" time, but our rooms have not yet been ready, despite our reservations being made months in advance. This last time, our room wasn't ready until about 7 pm. This resulted in a tired toddler needing an afternoon nap having a meltdown. Each day we have stayed at the Grand Californian, our room has never been serviced before late afternoon (despite our leaving the "please make up our room" sign out). Because of this, we have had to choose between our trash being emptied and our kids being able to take naps in the afternoon. Even at a discount, we paid over $400/night for our rooms, after subtracting park ticket prices. That's not $400/night service.

We stay here because we like the room layout (the bunkbeds are great for the kids - but last time our request for bunk beds - made months in advance- wasn't honored until I insisted upon it and was told we would have to wait several hours) and because of the location. We love staying "in" the park and we love watching the fireworks form our balcony.

The service is TERRIBLE, though. Really, their prices are at Ritz Carlton level, but you would get better service at a Fairfield. We don't ask for much - just to have our room ready at our reservation time and to have our room made up each day, but they can't even do that for $400 a night.

I am a DVC member, and this is my first negative review at one of their resorts. I have a huge tolerance for things, but this was amazingly bad. We were unable to get one room for our length of stay, so we had to move. We checked out on time (11am), but at check in time (4pm) our room was not ready (5 hours we waited)!!! Upon going to complain and talk to a manager, we were treated with blank stares and platitudes with no real solution to our problems other than a couple of fastpass's. As we are from the east coast we usually confine ourselves to Disney World. After this trip, I can honestly say it will be a long time before we come back to the west coast and even longer before I stay in the Grand Californian again!!!

Room Tip: Plan early so you can get your whole vacation in one room. We started six months in advance and had...

We stayed here for 3 nights and it was wonderful...as Disney always is in my experience!

When we arrived I really was taken aback as the lobby/reception is simply stunning...so beautiful! We were greeted and checked in in classic disney style (very enthusiastic and friendly reception staff!)

The room was clean, spacious and comfy. It was nicely decorated and had a nice feeling of warmth to it. There were lots of lovely little touches such as a framed picture of Micky and a Bambi shower curtain. The bathroom was also very nice. One teeny tiny complaint...I had a bath and it was seriously the shallowest bath I have ever been in! To me this was a very minor inconvenience but if you're the type of person who can't live without a long hot soak before you go to bed, you may want to check out other hotels!

We only ate at the hotel once. We had a character breakfast and that was great!! There was not a huge choice of places to eat in the evening but the hotel is right next to downtown disney so it's not really a problem.

The best thing really is the location...you just walk right out of the door and you're in downtown disney!! There is also a separate entrance for guests to get into california adventure park and to get to the main park entrance takes less the 5 minutes! It's just so easy and convenient.

I would definitely stay here again! Thanks to all the staff, we had a lovely stay :)

I really hate to have to write a negative review on this hotel, as it was our third stay and we were so looking forward to it, but our next trip to Disneyland I will find another hotel. we only stay at Disneyland resorts but this time it truly showed how you are just $$$$$ and not a valued customer. Don't get me wrong we chose to spend a lot on our room and a lot on our view (park view)..we had a view of CA right behind Goofy's Flight School. We love this hotel because it is close to everything and very convenient, but the whole vibe of the place now is "cold" you actually get scared to ask for anything because a lot of the staff make you feel like you are pushing your luck or something. Our other 2 visits were fine, but it has gone down hill, in service and that friendly Disney feel. I didn't even get friendly vibes from other guests in the lifts, lobby etc, everyone was kinda pushy and rushing, not a lot of smiles.
Anyway having said that I will say they have the best Housekeeping staff and service in the world, perfect service, always on time and very efficient. We spend a lot of money here because we though it was worth it, but not anymore, I will do a lot of research for our next family Disneyland trip and try a hotel outside of the park, we just want to feel valued and welcomed as guests.

Room Tip: Do your research and make sure which view you would really like as great views at this hotel cost hu...

Just back from 2 nights and three days at Disney's Grand Californian. Loved the hotel almost as much as much as the Ahwahnee in Yosemite. Much to our surprise, it is not a knock off. Rather a very beautiful representation. We especially liked the fact that it was not just more disney fun. It was a bit of a relief to escape to the Grand Californian in the afternoon. We really enjoyed the pools and staff was excellent.

We checked in about 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon. We asked nicely and were upgraded to a view room. We were in Room 4322, 4th floor with a view of the pool and an adequate sized balcony. We could also see the ferris wheel in California Adventures, which was so pretty to watch change colors at night. Plus a bit of the World of Colors show. This room was extremely convenient location: close to the elevator, above the Storytellers Cafe, and close to the gate to California Adventure. I gave the hotel 4 stars instead of 5 because the bunk bed mattresses were very uncomfortable and the pillows hard.

Regarding the Costco Package - the only thing I suggest is to fully understand the meal voucher before you use it. We received three vouchers, two adults vouchers at $43 value each and a child at $22 value. We used one voucher for the first breakfast when we ordered from the menu rather than the buffet. The next day we used the other two and all three went to the buffet. Each meal fit the $ value of the voucher. However, on the second day the waiter said the policy had changed and you could only use one voucher per person. Turns out we had premium vouchers, but were using them at the less expensive restaurants. Leaving money unspent on the voucher by only using one per person.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of the pool over the Storytellers Cafe for convenience, quiet and beautiful v...

The staff was exceptionally friendly here, and because we checked in midweek in early February, there were no delays at all getting registered and in our rooms. In fact, since there was no line behind us, the gentleman at the reservation desk spent a lot of time with us giving us tips about getting around the parks, he dug out some first time visitor souvenirs for us, and pointed us to a 4 o'clock kiddie scavenger hunt (where cookies for all were the prize).

The location to the parks can't be beat, and the morning in-hotel California Adventure line was no more than a 15 min wait. Food was a bit pricey at Storytellers, and you can get some of the same things for cheaper at the neighboring snack shop.

The pools were fantastic, heated enough to even be enjoyable in February.

The rooms were very clean, but small. Smaller even than most Sheraton and Hilton rooms I've visited. The only negative we found (and the reason for the four stars) is that although you don't really hear anything happening out in the hallways, the walls between rooms are pretty thin. We could hear the neighboring room conversations even though they were not be being that loud.

Other than that - next time we'll ask for a corner room.

Finally, although our room faced the hotel's entrance - I was much happier we faced that direction than Downtown Disney - that side can get pretty noisy.

Room Tip: The hotel has lots of cool little activities happening during the day. Just ask them what's goin...

Our room was a 3 minute walk to California Adventure and a 5 minute walk to Disneyland. This is a very nice, though pricey, property. Very clean and well laid out. The only negative impressions were with the actual check in process.....it took 25 minutes to get to the front of the line (only two employees working); and with the staff in general. No one was very friendly and they were more concerned with talking to each other than the guests. Though it wasn't enough to negatively impact my stay it was obvious the staff isn't very happy with their jobs. Stay here for the convenience, location and the quality of the facilities at a Disney property.

Room Tip: Avoid Downtown Disney view because of the noise and request California Adventure view on a high floo...
