“comfortable stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2014

Stayed here with our 2 & 6 year old, loved how close it was to the parks so if we needed to "divide and conquer" it was easy to do so. I love Disneyland SO MUCH more than Disneyworld. The people are nicer, the weather is nicer, and it's not so overwhelming. Our room was comfortable, the food in the character meal downstairs was good.
My only complaints were while we were there they had an event where the fire alarm went off at 1:30am and woke us up. They were totally unprepared as to where to route all of the guests, no explanation was given as to what had happened, and they moved us twice before settling on having us stand in downtown Disney until the all clear. Also the "spa" was nothing to write home about. I had a pedicure and it was not great. I'd not likely go back to the "spa" for any other services.

This property is so well located we would definitely stay here again.

Reality is the property is very expensive, and quite dated and dark...certainly the guest rooms and bathrooms. However the pool facilities are very good, the service great, and the location exceptional.

You can't beat walking back through those gates to escape the crowds and have a swim, and then being able to return an hour later.

Service from the reception and VIP services staff was attentive, quick and knowledgeable. We did experience some delays with the food and beverage service at the pool.

A plug for the VIP guide offering at Disneyland. This was an absolutely amazing service. Whilst not cheap the value was fantastic. We were lucky enough to have Chris, who was passionate, knowledgable, and very proactive. He arranged VIP seats for the shows at nights, restaurant bookings, and enabled us to experience two days in one at the parks. Very impressed!

Lastly, after some terrible food experiences at both parks, would highly recommend the Italian vineyard restaurant at California Adventure. Nice to have some fresh tasty food and nice wine.

In summary, if we came back we would stay here again because you just can't beat the location!

We are DVC members, and our home resort is the Grand Californian. Let me just say, I love this hotel! Not only did we get munchies all the time from the club level lounge, we put our swimsuits on, ran to GRR, rode it, went back to our room and changed out of the wet clothes.

The location is simply unprecedented here, add that to the grand wilderness-y style and you've got a great place to return year after year.

From the minute we walked into the the Grand Californian we were greeted by a cast member that directed us to our cast member for the concierge floor. We were checked in directly in our room by the concierge cast member and she also gave us a tour. The food and beverages (including adult beverages) provided in the concierge lounge, free of charge was well worth the extra points we used to book our stay. We are DVC members. Our room had a private balcony was roomy and the double sinks made getting ready fast and easy. The extra touches of turning down the bed at night and the chocolates on the pillow put a smile on our faces at the end of a magical day. The pools were clean and chairs were very comfortable. The food and drinks served pool side made sitting by the pool easy. We also took advantage of the easy access into the theme park attached to the Grand Californian. Disney knows how to treat their guests and it always feels like they are "welcoming us home" !!

Room Tip: Book a room with a balcony to watch the fireworks at night.

You couldn't be closer to California Adventure park! The room was large enough for our family of 5 (with three teenagers). There was a day bed for our youngest. The staff were all friendly and genuinely helpful. The room was mostly quiet for such a large hotel. The AC did not seem to cool while we were out of the room, so it was a bit stuffy until it got going. Plenty of towels and chocolates on the pillow with turndown each night.

Fortunately, Disneyland is not so spread out like Disney World in Florida. However, after a long day at Disneyland, this is the perfect hotel to stay at because it is so close to the park! This hotel is right on the property between Disneyland and California Adventure which is ideal. In addition, the décor is like a mountain lodge, well kept and the staff are extremely attentive (of course, all Disney staff is this way - it must be one of their hiring criteria).

This summer we stayed at Grand Californian for the 4th time.
It was by far the most expensive hotel we stayed at on our trip even though some of the other hotels was much nicer.
But would I pay the insane price again?
Yes.
I love the location and convenience. I love being able to run up to my run to grab a sweater. I love having my shopping at the parks delievered to the front desk.
To me there is something special about walking straight in to one of the parks from the hotel and for that I pay the insane price for this hotel.
