“Disney At It's Best!”
Reviewed 3 December 2009

We just returned from a week trip with my family - we traveled with our 8 year old twin boys and also my parents. We had a 2 bedroom suite at the Grand Californian and the accommodations were wonderful. There was more than enough room for the 6 of us. We over looked the pools and Californian Adventure Park. The room was extremely quiet and beds were comfortable. We also had conceirge access. The lounge was great with drinks and food throughout the day. The boys loved the story time and sing along at night along with the great view of the fireworks from the balcony. The conceirge was more than willing to accommodate our every request and booked us private transportation to the Queen Mary and Harbor Cruise and were more than willing to print our boarding passes for our flight home. The close proximity to the parks can't be beat and we were only a minute walk back to our suite for a clothing change after getting wet on the rapid ride at California Adventure Park. We were also able to eat at both The Storyteller's Cafe for breakfast twice and at Napa Rose for dinner once - the food at both of these restaurants was wonderful! Yes, this hotel is pricey - but you get what you pay for - I woudn't stay anywhere else when at the Disneyland resort. All the cast members made my twins first Disney experince magical - way to go Disney!!!

We stayed here for 2 nights the week before Thanksgiving and had a great time. We have 4 kids so we got connecting rooms which worked out great. The staff was wonderful, everywhere from check in to check out. The location was perfect for going to both parks. It was so nice not having to walk very far or take a tram.
The pool area was also very nice. I would def. stay here again. We book about a month before on expedia and got a GREAT rate.

We have always wanted to stay at this hotel because it is connected to the Califoria Adventure park. We had originally made a reservation for the Disneyland hotel, but switched when I received an e-mail for a significant rate discount for the Grand Californian. We have stayed at a couple of the Disney deluxe hotels in Florida, so had a general idea what to expect from this hotel. Our stay was for 5 nights.

The lobby was impressive and welcoming. Our room was on the third floor, close to the elevator. Our view was of the main entrance with the Paradise Pier and Disneyland hotels int he background. There was plenty of room for us to unpack and store our suitcases. The room was not as clean as I expected upon check in. The carpet looked like it needed to be vacuumed, and the sink areas needed a good scrubbing (soap residue, water drops, toothpaste splatters). There were also two puddles of spilled shampoo and liquid soap on the sides of the tub. I decided not to call housekeeping, and used some cleaning wipes and scrubbed these areas myself. Housekeeping was okay. We noticed that the cleaning was better after the second day, maybe there was change in staff. We tipped well each day, regardless (we work in the tourism industry).

The hotel had a nice selection of dining options for us. We ate at the Storytellers Cafe 3 times (one character breakfast, one lunch, and one dinner). The food was tasty and very fresh. My kids loved the selections of fresh fruit and veggies, and I enjoyed the asparagus several times. We have severe food allerigies in our family, and the chefs were very accomodating and easy to work with. The wait staff were very attentive and friendlyf. The White Water Snacks (I think that's what it's called) seemed like an afterthought in it's location. The selection wasn't the best and there weren't options for the allergy members in our group. We did use room service twice for breakfast. Once when we slept in and the other the morning we were to check out. The food was delivered within 45 minutes and was tasty. However, the prices seemed higher than usual for room service. They wanted to charge us $4.99 for ONE banana, for example.

The location of the hotel was excellent. It was so convenient to be right next to the CA park, within 5-10 minute walk to Disneyland and close to Downtown Disney. We were thrilled to not have to trek too far after a full day of walking in the parks.

We used the pool only once because it was a bit chilly (in the mid-60's). It wasn't crowded at all, and my kids enjoyed mostly the main pool with the slide. We used the laundry facility twice. The room was very small and tucked away. At least there was a table to sit at to read while waiting for the wash to be done. The cost was reasonable, with the washer rate at $1.00 (26 minutes cycle), and the dryer at .50 for 30 minutes.

Overall, we were pleased with our stay at this hotel. If we received another discounted rate, we will most likely stay here again.

The hotel is beautiful - it looks like an arts and crafts hotel. We loved the atmosphere and the location right in the Calif. Adventure Park. My husband could easily return for naps, while I stayed in the parks. It was very quiet and didn't seem as though as many families with small children were staying there, as there are at other hotels Maybe it just has great soundproofing? The meals at the Napa Rose and the Story Teller cafe were very good and we also had a glass of wine in the lounge, which was nice. The Disney touch was subtle, but we still received a photo of Mickey and Minnie when we checked in and told them we were celebrating our anniversary. We didn't use the pool, so I can't comment on that. I would definately stay again, if the same low rate was available.

Not only was this hotel super convienently located, but the subtleness of Mickeys in our room was super cool! It's wasn't overbearring MICKEY everywhere, just little things that made it so nice. The beds were awesome.... down comforters... friendly staff, great room service and super clean. Everyone loved it, no complaints at all. The parking wasnt super easy, but the 5 minute walk was definitely worth it. They did bill me a deposit without letting me know, but they were fast to release the funds once i brought it to their attention. Napa Rose is located on the bottom floor of this hotel and the food/wine is devine. Even with being right in front of California Adventure, the sound proof patio doors were extremely effective.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights. We wanted to make the most of our 2 night stay at Disneyland so we decided to stay right next to Disneyland. The hotel is located right next to Disneyland and California Adventure. In fact, it literally took us 5 minutes to walk back from California Adventure to our hotel room! However, it seemed Disney was attempting to milk every single dollar from guests. We asked for teabags for the room and they asked us to pay for them (normally they're complimentary). There was also no minibar (even if you wanted to pay for them) and the restaurants were very expensive. I had a massage at the Mandara Spa but I didn't think it was spectacular (I've had better massages at other Mandara Spas). The massage was also very expensive.

I don't think I would stay here again next time, there are other hotels that are cheaper, better in service, and just a stone's throw away.

This Grand Californian's location can't be beat. Short walk into the CA adventure park, and maybe 5 minutes walk to Disneyland. From our room we were able to watch the fireworks each night. The room was very clean. We had to call housekeeping for lotion and kleenex (which weren't replenished when our room was cleaned). The products were delivered quickly and we received a phone call to make sure the items had been put in our room.

The food at the hotel isn't anything great, but it's a very short walk to downtown Disney, where there were several places to choose from.
