“Great location, good value”
Reviewed 16 November 2009

I booked the Desert Palms because as a woman traveling aIone with a kid, I wanted a complimentary breakfast, pool, and interior corridors. This is a great location, close to the parks and at a busy intersection, yet quiet, which is a combination that is hard to come by.
I had asked for a quiet location and was surprised to see that my room, 226, was directly across the hall from a soda machine. But it faced a wall (odd) with the pool below, and it was, indeed, quiet! We were able to sleep safely with the window open.
The room did seem a little worn (bedspreads) but we found the beds comfortable (firm). There were a couple of quirks; 2 office-type chairs (?), no mirror in the room, and an odd add-on closet door rather than the open closet typical for a hotel room of this vintage. I did wipe down the bathroom door jamb when I got it the room as it looked grubby, and it cleaned up so obviously it was. But the daily housekeeping service was super.
The breakfast was better than nothing, at least it got you started. The kids loved it because there were lots of carbs in the form of sweet cereal and 3 kinds of donuts. As others have indicated, the hot entree changes from scrambled eggs, potatoes and sausage patties one day to biscuits and gravy (no meat) and scrambled eggs the next. As for fruit, oranges only, juice is OJ or grapefruit. There is oatmeal but it is yuck. Bread is the cheapest supermarket white and wheat. But next door is a 7-11, and next to it an ABC Market, so you can supplement with yogurt and fresh fruit easily. Prices at ABC are cheaper.
The pool is small and only 5 feet deep. It is outdoor, but protected by walls on all sides so it is not affected by winds and is cleaned well each day. And a hot tub. Perfectly adequate.
A quick walk to Disney, under 10 minutes. Strip mall across the street with quick and cheap choices; Subway, Chinese, Mexican.
I paid an average of $80.00 a night, knew about the resort fee, and had the safe fee removed when I checked out. I experienced NO up-sell.
I would stay here again, wouldn't even bother to check other properties.
It was perfect for my needs.

We have stayed at the Carousel Inn and Suites and the Candy Cane before and thought we would try something else. This hotel was very clean but it is worn and the beds really could use replacing. The breakfast was okay but not worth the reason to stay here. Scrambled eggs, toast, orange and donuts with some fruit loops, cornflakes and orange juice and grapefruit juice. They alternated between sausage patties and biscuits and gravy. It was about a 10 minute walk to Disneyland and it was quite an easy walk after a day at the park. There is a 7-11 next door and many places to find food near by. If you want to be able to walk to the park and want free parking this works pretty well but if you want a comfy bed and a better breakfast I would go elsewhere.

the hotel staff was fine, they brought extra pillows quickly (pillows are very small and lumpy. the breakfast buffet was so so, we paid extra to get the "hot" items but there was no one there to check who was supposed to get it, furthermore there was nothing to say that we were to get it, so we wasted extra money for no reason, fairly frustrating... our room felt worn out , but looked like it had been cleaned. the beds were horrid, we felt the springs and we are average sized people. the hotel had NO hot water for 2 days (not their fault) so they gave us 50% off those 2 nights, but when we got the refund (over a month later) it was for $58 total and we had the borrego suite, so that was very disappointing. the lobby is nice enough, but the halls just look worn out. we could see disneyland and calif. adv from our room which was nice. the free breakfast and location are not worth the stay here, we won't return.

Despite having booked our vacation 5 months prior, we were disappointed upon check-in to be given a 1st floor room that opened directly onto the rear parking lot, with cars driving by only a few feet away from the window. (We had to wonder if this was our "punishment" for declining to pay for the upgrade suggested to us by the front desk when we arrived.) We requested a room change, and were moved to a 2nd floor room with a view of metal ductwork and the enclosed pool area. The pool noise (kids yelling) kept on until my husband called the desk at 10:30 p.m. (the pool area is supposed to close at 10 p.m.). The next morning, we woke to find there was no hot water anywhere in the hotel. We were told a water heater part had broken "because it had been raining". We asked to be moved to a different room, but there were only 2 left to choose from. The hot water was fixed later that day, and the rest of the stay was okay. We skipped the free breakfast twice because it is limited in selection, with few nutritional choices, and the setting is chaotic. The hotel restaurant is more of an adult sports bar, not suitable for a family dinner. Given the 10 minute walk from Disneyland, next time we will stay elsewhere.

We have seen many reviews and decided to try out this hotel. Our experience with previous hotels were not good ones so we decided to change. We are so glad we did. We were greeted by an extremely nice gentleman and the check-in process was so easy. The family thought the suite was awesome. It was clean and everything worked properly. We will definately stay again.

Clean hotel, great location for trade show exhibitors. Not a good place for breakfast if you do not like kids. We made our own breakfast. Other than that its a nice hotel.

The hotel was clean and inviting upon arrival. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our Borrego Suite room was perfect for our group- one adult, two teenage brothers, and one teenage girlfriend. The breakfast, included in the hotel stay price, was decent - both hot and cold food choices given. We did not have a chance to experience the swimming pool, so I cannot comment on that. The only slighty negative thing I would say would be the walking distance to the actual Disneyland entrance - a bit further than expected; although, we did find a Disney shuttle (by the second day!) that was running back and forth from a drop-off/pick-up point closer to the hotel. A convenience store is located right next door to this hotel, so that was helpful to get bottled water, snacks, etc... Overall, we felt this hotel was a very good value for the money!
