“Well priced family hotel near Disneyland”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014 via mobile

This hotel is strongly campaigning for guests to review and give it 5, but with some justification, particularly in the context of the extremely reasonable pricing for a clean and comfortable room close to Disneyland. It is a mid century hotel complex with a number of buildings set into gardens, slightly groovy in a retro kind of way that reminds me of childhood holidays. That feeling continues in the rooms which are not at all trendy or fancy but exceptionally clean, spacious and functional, which is much more important. The hotel is at the end of the strip opposite Disneyland, but the walk is fine - in fact it is better located than at least two of the Disney hotels in my opinion - and compared to the Disney hotels the value for money is really phenomenal. Special mention needs to be given to the kids' "pirate pool" area, which, although not huge, is very clean and well run, with fresh warm towels available and a supervisor on duty at the water slide. Downsides: number one for me was that on arriving after midnight (through no fault of our own - remind me to review Karmel airport shuttles separately!) we were prevented from entering the hotel foyer and I had to transact a lengthy and bureaucratic check in through a glass window in the wall, while standing outside shivering and holding a sleepy three year old. Not ideal - we were clearly not a security threat and could have been allowed in when I asked. Also, unlike some reviewers, we could hear the traffic noise from the freeway - in fact it was too loud for us in the first room we had, waking us before 6 am. Hotel staff were helpful in response and moved us to another room - still noisy but less so, and we were also told that a central room (considered a lower grade room, smaller and with no microwave) would have been even less noisy. I also see from other reviews that some rooms have a view of the fireworks - was not aware of this or would have asked for it. We will definitely stay here again, and in fact can't wait to return to Disneyland, so hope it will not be too long!

This hotel was nice. Our room was near the pool. It was a corner room, so it was extra big. My daughter enjoyed the mini water park. It was walking distance to Disneyland. Even though it was near the freeway there wasn't any road noise. We enjoyed Mimi's Cafe next door.

Room Tip: Good for families with young children! The mini water park was a big hit!

We had a great time at the Hojo staying 4 nights with a 2 and 5 year old. Firstly, we should have saved our money on disney tickets and just spent every day by the Hojo's pools - the kids loved it that much (whereas disney was hot and packed). The grounds were quite pretty and all the extras (like the laundry, games room) were appreciated. Other reviewers have mentioned freeway/AC noise, and yes there was noise however we found it to be more white noise than sleep-preventing. Likewise the issue of skylights....we were in a room on the top of building 3 which had the skylights and yes, light streams in. On the positive side this makes the room lovely and bright, but request a different room if you require nice, dark rooms for sleeping in.

Last but not least, the staff are fabulous. We left a phone at the pool which was inadvertently scooped up with some discarded pool towels. Hubbie raced to the front desk and the front desk guy went above and beyond, rushing him down to the laundry area where the lady cleaning the towels had already found the phone and had it waiting. Such a relief and top marks to the helpful and honest staff. We loved the Hojo!!

Room Tip: If freeway noise or sun are issues for you, check the building maps and request rooms that meet your...

We visited the HoJo from Sydney, Australia last year for a week. We were so impressed that this year we came back for two weeks.

We stayed in rooms 4106 & 4108 which had a connecting door. Our family of four were in one room and my wife's parents joined us in the other room. Rooms were great, very close to pirate pool and on the ground floor so no stairs. Wall mounted TV with all the major cable channels and good size.

If you are looking for a very functional exceptionally well located friendly well priced hotel then look no further.

Prior to having kids I travelled a lot for business and had grown accustomed to 5* hotels and resorts, now my priorities have changed and we are now looking to stay in places that serve our needs as a family. HoJo has got the formula exactly right in my opinion. Let's be clear these aren't cutting edge contemporary boutique hotel rooms. These are welcoming, warm, comfortable, clean family rooms. Rooms where you can take the weight off at the end of the day and truly relax.

Our kids absolutely loved the pirate water park and spent hours on end happily using the slides. They have a life guard on duty during the day. Our kids are 3 1/2 and 4 1/2 and had a blast. Meanwhile mum and dad got some r&r by the poolside - a rare treat!

Proximity to Disney is excellent, it's a 10-15 minute walk maximum to either park or downtown Disney. McDonalds is on the way, so we quickly fell into a routine of picking up our coffees in the early morning on the way to the parks. With the hotel so close we felt that we could stay much longer in the parks knowing that the journey back wasn't daunting. Sth Harbor Blvd also has a string of mid-ranged restaurants most of which I consider very good value. Mimi's next door to the hotel is a good place to refuel after a long day at the parks. A longer walk takes you to California Pizza Kitchen, Cheesecake Factory and PJ Changs etc. In the opposite direction adjacent to the hotel is a bridge over the freeway, on the other side is a drive-thru Starbucks and Taco Bell (about a 5 min walk).

As a tip if you were are staying for a while, head down to Walmart in Anaheim - it's located in a big shopping park and is 24 hrs. We picked up trays of crudites, fruit and ingredients for sandwiches which we stored in the room fridges - we saved a lot on food in the parks this way and ate very healthily. Of course it goes without saying that everything is 1/3 price of food back home in Australia, another holiday bonus.

All in all a very relaxing and enjoyable holiday, I could go on about the well stocked onsite shop, the courteous staff, the nightly ritual of watching the fireworks from our room etc etc

Room Tip: Choose ground floor on one of the low rise blocks

Stayed for 3 nights 23-25 June 14.

A bad start checking in at 0900 that we were considered a no show from the previous day and our room was not available, despite the room being paid for. Considering we travelled from Australia and booked the check in date/time with our travel agent to align with our flight landing & transfer, we found the attitude of the reception staff terrible - why they thought they were doing us a favour in finding us a room was a very poor understanding of their customer, despite the room being paid in advance - why should it matter what time we arrived ? With any common sense, the staff would have said nothing, just given us a room and not lectured us about confirming bookings, again why I should confirm something I have already paid for I struggle with - I don't need to do this at more up market hotels.

After that, it was a fairly standard stay - it's close to Disneyland, the bed was comfortable, the kids enjoyed the pool/ water park and it was close to restaurants. On the flip side, it's noisy from the freeway, the air con was loud, we could not open a window and the shower water pressure average.

Overall, nothing more, nothing less than what it cost - apart from the lack of customer understanding with regard check in times and a room being paid for to arrive early in the morning.

Room Tip: Confirm your booking even if it's paid for in advance.

This is our 3rd stay so we do keep coming back because we have the Wyndham rewards program and often stay for free. I would say that this hotel is in need of a makeover it is feeling pretty dated. Its clean but showing wear and age. Most hotels in this price range have granite and modern colors this hotel does not. I think next time we will stay a little farther down at the Wyndham Grove. A free stay wont brings us back until they do some remodeling. The staff is pleasant and the walk to Disney is a breeze.

This hotel is the last one on the strip but very much worth it. Clean and beds are super comfortable! Nice pool and water playground. Shop on site is very convenient and well stocked. Several restaurants on the walk to Disney including McDonalds. I would definitely stay here again if we ever in the area.
