Was back in OC for a business trip in late July, so decided on some "me-time" with a three day stay in Anaheim. Had just been there in September, and stayed at the Carousel Inn, and even though I disliked their parking and internet fees, the overall experience there was pretty good. However, looking to save a few steps and a few dollars, (and noting their free parking and wireless internet availability), I booked the Park Vue Inn instead. BIG mistake. With few exceptions, my overall experience was extremely negative.
I arrived in mid-morning, fully expecting my room would not be ready, and it wasn't, but they gave me a parking pass and I spent the rest of the morning and much of the afternoon at Disneyland. When I arrived back late afternoon, was told to "hold on a minute" and the clerk disappeared in the back. After a long time he came back and told me that "Maintenance is just finishing up fixing the a/c in your room, they may still be there." Oh oh. I got to my first floor room, and sure enough, there was a GAPING hole in the wall, by the floor, with no air conditioner, and who knew what had crawled into the room. The very pleasant maintenance guys did come back, put the unit in, and thankfully it worked fine...but I was creeped out by that.
The room itself was "tired," stains on the rug, filthy handprints by the door molding, furniture all worn and distressed, stains on the blanket, and some very poor patching jobs on the wall where a sink formerly had been in the bathroom. Many reviews here have noted the thin walls and creaking floors above, and I could hear EVERYTHING said in the next room, as the connecting doors are thin and cheap. I went to get ice, and found that there was a 25 cent charge, and having no quarters, gave up on that. Five minutes later there was a knock on the door, and a maid brought in a bag of ice to me, I was very impressed by that and that she'd noticed. (I later tried the ice machine without paying, and it worked! So who knows if they really charge or not)I only wish that attention to detail was in place throughout the place.
There was a very odd odor in the room, never could figure out what it was, and the beds creaked like a haunted house; one of the lamps over the bed had a broken switch, which likely is a fire hazard, and they used the dimmest bulbs possible in all lights, so you never got good light in the place. Cheap styrofoam cups were provided for drinks, and yet, one very nice "Park Vue Inn" coffee mug...which I found a bit strange.
The internet wouldn't work for me that first afternoon, and when I called the desk, they told me it was fine and it had to be my computer. Well, I tried EVERYTHING, (even trying to get on the wireless from the hotel next door!) and it still didn't work. Nor did it the next day, when finally the clerk at the desk told me, "Yes, it's down, we're working on it." And nor did it work later that day, nor the morning of my last full day there.....however, it DID work the third night, but by that time I was so sick and tired of the whole place I didn't care.
One of the reasons one gets a room close to the park is so one can come back, rest and re-charge your batteries, but it's hard to do that when you come back to a room at 3-4 o'clock in the afternoon and your room STILL isn't made up. So much for my plans of coming back each day, catching up on work email, etc. Didn't happen.
Didn't expect much from their "continental breakfast," and that's a good thing, as I tried it on day one, only to find the orange juice machine broken, and a very small selection of generic "baked" goods. I ate at Disneyland after that.
I had an early morning flight out of Long Beach on checkout day, so had to leave around 6:00 a.m. I went to the office to find all the doors locked, and no one answering when I knocked, nor was there a house phone readily apparent for me to call someone. At that point I was so disgusted with the place I just took the hotel key cards, threw them away, and drove off.
As I said, I should have known better, and tried to give this place a chance, but never, never again. There are lots of alternatives in the area, and believe me, next trip I'll choose one of them. I didn't have high expectations for this place, I'm a realist, but one would expect them to get the basics right and at least provide the things they offer. This is the most negative review I've ever written here, but the sorry tale had to be told!
