“Wonderful,Beautiful and Relaxing Stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 October 2011

My husband and I just returned from a Northern California trip and we stayed at 4 different great hotels and inns as we traveled. Our favorite place was Sand Rock Farm! We stayed in the Sun Porch room which was lovely with a spacious bedroom, bath and sitting room. Many windows brought the beautiful outside scenery right into the room. The jacuzzi tub was very nice and spacious plus there was access to the outdoor hot tub. Our bed was very comfortable and there even was a tv for our use, if desired. Breakfasts were wonderful and so different than any we'd had at many other B&Bs over the years. Kris was delightful! She helped us to make the most of our few days in the Santa Cruz area by arranging a private winery tour and whale watching. This was all done via correspondence even before we arrived! Her recommendations for dinner at two local restaurants were also spot on. While we were there, Today's Bride magazine what conducting a photoshoot for an upcoming issue and the next day Kris hosted a small wedding party. Even with all that going on, our stay was peaceful and delightful and Kris was very attentive. She runs a wonderful establishment - get there before everyone finds out about it!

Apart from the fact that there was no tv available, we couldn't fault the room, or the bathroom (with jacuzzi bath big enough for 2). The bed was exceptionally comfortable with the softest pillows you could ever imagine.

Breakfast was lovely and different. Although my husband would have appreciated more meat! I was quite happy with it and generally it was delicious and freshly cooked.

We were lucky enough to have some really friendly fellow guests and we all had a lot of chat and laughs around the breakfast table.

The b & b is a bit off the beaten track, but if you are looking for a secluded place with a lovely comfy room, then this is it.

We made a reservation and there was a mix-up with our email communication. So, our original choice to stay in the Sun Porch Suite was booked by another guest during the confusion. Kris made this right by offering The Hidden Garden Suite to us instead at the same price as the Sun Porch and threw in a bottle of Roudon Smith Claret, which was, by the way, very nice Kris!!

The Hidden Garden Suite, complete with our private Hot-Tub, was HUGE and very peaceful. The garden, which was unbelievable in beauty, was private to us and would probably have been used more if the weather was better. However, since the weather was quite cool, we had more than enough room to relax and have space in this room complete with it's own living area, electric fireplace and bright windows, bringing the outside garden in our room with surrounding plants and flowers.

The breakfast is amazing and nothing is from a package. Everything was homemade and some of the fruits, veges and herbs came from Sand Rock Farm's own garden.

Kris and her staff were so wonderful and besides the wonderful hospitality, she recommended good restaurants in the area like Cafe Sparrow, a must for the perfect dinner in Aptos.

Recommendation: Please consider a new shower-head in this Suite as it was not nice and very inefficient. No mark down in ratings though because it is easily fixable/replaceable, which I am sure Kris will take care of.

Sand Rock Farm is a gem, a Craftsman-style inn that dates back to the 1800s, when the property was a winery. Innkeeper Kris Sheehan has surrounded the inn with winding paths through lovely gardens, shaded by stunning redwoods. Our room was large, very comfortable, with wifi access. Breakfasts were ample, delicious. Kris is a fount of information about the house and its history, what to see, where to dine.

Room Tip: All five rooms in this inn are "the best." Any of them will be just fine.

Historic farmhouse, tasteful antiques, gourmet breakfast, peaceful gardens among redwood groves made our stay at sand rock farm an amazing memory. Kris is warm and accommodating, adding unexpected touches like fresh flowers and homegrown raspberries to our breakfast. She is also an expert on the best restaurants and places to see. It feels like going home for the holidays!

This was one of the most relaxing, peaceful, tranquil places I've stayed. We were warmly greeted upon our arrival and shown to our room, which contained fresh flowers. The host is gracious. Each morning starts out splendidly arriving to the dining room table which looks out into the garden , and birds feeding just outside the window. We were served a healthy gourmet breakfast which begins with fresh fruit locally grown, complimented with classical jazz softly playing in the back ground. Truly a special way to start the day. The grounds are beautiful with various fountains locations on the property, many wonderful spots to sit and read, or just enjoy the flavor and scents of the Redwood, and Eucalyptus trees.
The location is minutes away from several beaches, and the nearby towns offer a wide variety of eateries from the simple fast food to gourmet dining.

Simply Magnificent!

Room Tip: Each room is unique - can't go wrong.

Sand Rock Farm Bed and Breakfast is a beautiful place to unwind and rejuvenate. I recently stayed on an Sunday night (Mother's Day) in Spring. Surprisingly, the entire place was empty and I had the whole house to myself. What a treat!

Gardens - In the afternoon I sat in the upper and lower garden areas. Both gardens have small fountains with sitting areas. The lower garden is shaded by a redwood tree and it is moist and cool. The upper garden was in full bloom, with a gorgeous tulip tree, bush roses, regular roses and many others.

Room - My room was located in the corner of the building, overlooking the upper garden, directly over the kitchen. I didn't hear any kitchen noises.... I was happy that my room was quiet and serene as I am a light sleeper.

Service - Excellent service. When I checked in, they asked if I had any special requests. Wow - My wishes were fulfilled were exactly as I requested and delivered on time. Kris is awesome. She really cares for her guests and tirelessly works to please them. In my case, she bent over backwards to satisfy my retreat schedule (I commuted to Mt Madonna).

I highly recommend Sand Rock Farm Bed and Breakfast and I look forward to visiting again soon!
