“Beautiful grounds and generous hospitality”

We had an excellent stay at this Bed and Breakfast. The owner is so kind and welcoming from the initial phone conversation until the moment we had to leave. We can't say enough about how beautiful the green, expansive grounds are and the breakfast is scrumptuous! Everything was truly perfect including nearby recommended restaurants, lovely sitting gardens and just the best place to get away from it all without having to spend hours driving out of the city. We stayed in the popular Sunporch Suite which has a sunny sitting area for reading or chatting over a glass of wine. Although this is not on the website, in the back there is also a private hot tub. We highly recommend this place if you are in the area or just need to be somewhere beautiful and calm.

This B&B briefly had a GREAT offer on [--] for a free 2nd weekday night when paying for a weekday night. Shortly after we booked, they changed the deal to 50% off the 2nd night. We could never have afforded this expensive B&B without the discount.

While the room was fantastic - comfy bed, modern bath, and in-room jacuzzi - the somewhat rural setting meant no cell phone coverage. The lack of a television, and our inability to connect to the provided wireless internet service, meant we were cut off from all communication for more than 2 days (which wasn't so bad, really).

The breakfasts were delicious, and the conversations with the other guests were helpful. We traded notes on the nearby activities, including the Monterey aqaurium, Santa Cruz amusement park, sea lion and sea otter hangouts, and factory outlets in Gilroy - all within a 40 minute drive.

  • Liked — Nice sitting area to read

My wife and I were fortunate enough to be the only guests one night. We had the run of the house and it was wonderful!

We built a fire in the livingroom fireplace and spent about half the night in front of it in our bathrobes. (This would have been a little awkward if we weren't the only guests!) ;)

Kris, the owner was very accomodating and friendly. She left the house open for us because we would be arriving late. When we arrived we found the house was warm and lights were on. It felt exactly like we were coming home after a night on the town. Wonderful!

The house and it's decor were charming and cheerful. The room was comfortable and the jacuzzi tub was a nice touch. Very romantic!

When we awoke the next morning, the cook had arrived and our breakfast was ready. It was delicious!

We will be back and would easily recommend this place to our friends and family!

Good show, Kris!

We stayed in Sand Rock Farm as part of a trip to California to celebrate our 20 year anniversary. We chose it after the good reviews on Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived, after a long drive from LA (well, long to us anyway - we are from the UK and not used to spending 8 hours on the road!), we were looked after exceptionally well. From the moment we stepped out of the car, we knew we had found somewhere lovely. Kris, the owner, welcomed us so warmly that the stress of the drive just melted away. She showed us round, found us somewhere local and lovely for dinner with good vegetarian food, and gave us information about things to do in the local area. While we were there, she gave us maps, lent us her pass to the Monterey Aquarium (recommended), let us use her washing machine, helped us arrange a surfing lesson and fixed up a fantastic trip to a local vineyard. Sand Rock Farm itself is lovely. Our room (the Sunporch Suite) was huge and actually consisted of three separate rooms. The bed was huge and very comfortable and it was quiet at night - we slept very well. We particularly liked the private outdoor hot tub (shared with one other room) and the little touches - like free bottles of mineral water in the room every day and free wireless internet access. And, of course, the breakfasts - taken round a big table every morning (so you do meet your fellow guests, although we loved this and saw it as a plus) - absolutely delicious. We would thoroughly recommend Sand Rock Farm.

  • Tips/Secrets — If you're fed up with eating out, buy a picnic from Deluxe Foods of Aptos (ask Kris where it is located) and eat it back at Sand Rock Farm.

The Sand Rock Farm is located a short distance from beaches and forests and a good eight miles from the druggy Jersey-boardwalk sleaze of Santa Cruz.
I like the tranquility of this ten acre site with redwoods and rose gardens and a restored two-story Arts-and-Crafts farmhouse dating back to 1910. The house has a historic feel without seeming old--each room seems to yield an antique surprise, like the living room's full-length brass mirror purchased from sugar magnate Claus Spreckels who once owned the property.
I've stayed at the Sand Rock Farm twice. I especially liked the Eva's Garden room, where you can smell the roses when you wake in the morning and feel deep country darkness when you turn out the lights at night. Eva's Garden has a Jacuzzi in the bathroom (just the thing after kayaking or trail running) and a comfortable green velour divan, perfect for reading in the evening (no TV here).
The Morning Glory room features a Jacuzzi in the bedroom and a little more space. It might be better for romantic couples, and especially early risers, for the room faces the day's first sunlight.
Proprietor Kris really makes every effort to accommodate individual needs, and at breakfast, her daughter Lynn will show you why she may well be the top chef on the Central Coast.

  • Tips/Secrets — things to do in Aptos: buy a take-out dinner at the Bittersweek Bistro, drive 1.2 miles down to Rio del Mar beach, and grab a picnic table at sunset; hike the 11 mile Aptos Creek Trail at the Forest of Nisene Marks; take a paddling lesson with Eskape Sea Kayaking.

My partner and I stayed at this wonderful B & B for one night. We stayed in the Sun Porch Suite receiving a discount because of my birthday. (The owner said she would have given us a discount for being locals as well.) The "porch" in the suite was a separate sitting area with a love seat, coffee table, and chair. The porch looked out onto the garden. A door out of the bathroom led to the hot tub. The toom was cozy with a gas burning stove as well as central air heating. The B & B is in early 19th century decor with five rooms all of which are nicely furnished and roomy. The breakfast was very good: grapefruit with raspberry topping, french toast with blueberrys juice, and apple sausage. There are several different garden areas on the grounds with benches. There is some traffic noise from the Highway if you are outside in the garden, but the grounds are farr enough back from the road so that the noise is not distracting. I will definitely return to this B & B for some time away from the telephones.

Very helpful hosts made our visit in August a very enjoyable time! Our room was large and comfortable for my husband, daughter and myself & overlooked a
rose garden. Central location for whale watching,
Shakespeare and excellent restaurants all recommended
by our hosts. Great breakfasts too and very friendly
guests made this a relaxing stay.
