“Great Prix Fixe Dinner”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

Excellent and delicious food
Delicious steamed clams
Have a daily 3-course prix fixe menu for $23
First course is the choice between the small salad or a soup; I would recommend the Sparrow salad with its bleu cheese and cranberries
Second course is the main entrée. The chicken piccata was delicious and large; it was served with three (not more, not less) green beans, white rice, and a delectable sweet potato puree
Third course is dessert. The bread pudding was wonderful.
The food service was friendly.
The wine prices seemed to be rather high, although there were a few reasonably priced ones. The corkage fee is $20.
Minus: the place has flies swarming around.

“Great Hidden Gem”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

Had my Wife's Birthfday Dinner at Cafe Sparrow as part of our Vacation in Santa Cruz in August. What a wonderful, quaint and charming place!! With seating for no more than 30, an open kitchen, excellent wine list and fabulous food- this place was and will be a favorite for us anytime we are in the Santa Cruz area.

We both had the Rack of Lamb (personal favorites at any restaurant we go to) and it was cooked perfectly. The Fresh Greens Salad as well as the incredible desserts were to die for. Staff was friendly and service excellent!

“A hidden gem!”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

We just had lunch in Cafe Sparrow. It was divine. Salads all round and then ice-cream sundae for our daughter which had a sublime caramel sauce drizzled all over it. The service was outstanding too. If you visit Aptos this little cafe/restaurant on the high street is well worth a visit.

“Very nice ... probably locals only know about this one!”
Reviewed 8 June 2013

It's off the beaten path; not on the main highway, and tourists are going to have to search to find it! That makes it a lovely spot for the locals. It's in an "old-fashioned" building with a broad-board sidewalk out front ... just like the old days! One doesn't find those too often. It's also a tad pricey, and can be a bit noisey at times, but the food and service make up for it. The food is first-rate as well ... if that's important. :) Have never been disappointed.
