“Strawberry cake mmmmm”
Reviewed 27 May 2009

Anything I've bought here has been wonderfully deliciious, but the fresh strawberry and cream cake is to die for! They are a chain, but the quality is like a one of a kind bakery. Yummy!!

“A great local bakery!”
Reviewed 13 October 2008

JJ Bakery is located in the strip mall where the famous Din Tai Fung ,Phoenix Food Boutique, Life Plaza, and 2 banks are located. Soon there will also be another frozen yogurt place located in the plaza.

JJ Bakery has recently overtaken another store in which closed, which allowed JJ to make a new place for a Chinese Style breakfast, as well as a drink place. The area of the store has doubled, and the theme and decoration of the store has changed drastically! It feels more high end now especially with the furniture, and there are also black tiles on the floor. There is also now a bathroom at the way back of the store in which before did not exist.

Bakery items are always good at JJ Bakery. Their twist pastry is very nice; slightly salty and sweet. Raisin bread is a popular item and is shaped into a cocoon shape; because of this, in Chinese they call this product "Mao Mao Chong" in which means fuzzy bug. Interesting... Their green onion bread, taro bread, and green onion with pork floss bread is also good. Cheesecake bread is also something that is appearing often; it is regular bread with cheesecake inside, as well as chocolate and a topping on the outside.

Cakes are very nice too. Their taro cake is excellent; if you order it though I would recommend not getting the one with pudding as the taro flavor goes out, and the pudding is nothing special and yet causes a 4 dollar increase on the whole cake! Tiramisu is nice as well. Yule log is also good with some hazelnut flavor but that will probably only come out during the December months.

We tried a breakfast item during the afternoon- that day they somehow made steamed buns afternoon and were selling them. Anyway, they were excellent! Although not too large compared to places like 99 Ranch and the now closed Noodle House on Las Tunas, the quality was great. We ordered the meat filling one and it actually had juice coming out which was really warm! Not expecting that. Meat tasted like meat and there were side flavorings of cabbage and green onions. This was so unlike 99 ranch in which you could question the meat and where it came from. Overall it was a good product but pretty pricey at $1.25 each. For that price you could have gotten a big piece of bread for the same price or even less!

Many locals go to this place, but primarily Asian people are the customers there. Overall, JJ Bakery is a great place! Hopefully they will expand on the breakfast place and do lunch and dinner or do drinks all day (they now only open the breakfast section to 12PM) so that more people can try things out throughout the day.
