The sunsets are great from this house, but honestly it's the parking that hooked me. I've rented a lot of Air B'n'B's in the Bay Area, (Oakland and SF) and parking can be a nightmare. Here, you just park (literally) right next to the front door -- so no lugging suitcases or groceries three blocks down a street and no need to move your car every four hours. It's also really clean, feels safe and tucked in the trees away and is quiet.
The view is great and beds were very comfortable. Beautiful and spacious house nestled right against the Arcata Community Redwood Forest. Magnificent hikes right in your backyard! Highly recommended.
Arcata is my hometown and Ive stayed in a lot of rentals in the area on trips back to visit family and friends, but the house on Park Avenue is by far my favorite.
The view from the west facing windows gets me every time, and reminds me why I love the area - with Arcata below, the cow fields beyond, and beyond that, the sea - its breathtaking.
Positioned against the massive forest thats Redwood Park, it lends itself to more reminders (and easy access) to the beauty of nature that is Humboldt County, but with the incredible convenience of being a mere two minutes from downtown.
The house itself is bright and spacious and yet still warm and cozy. I recently stayed here for the second time with my husband and teenage daughter and find the layout perfect for being together but also for getting a little privacy - with the 1 1/2 bathrooms and decks at either end, theres room to spread out, but we found ourselves gathered around the kitchen bar watching the sunset every evening.
The house has everything we needed to feel at home away from home. The sheets were crisp, the bedding was comfy, and the whole house is warm and inviting. We will definitely be renting Park Avenue again. I can't recommend it highly enough.
The house is in a lovely location on a hill with a beautiful view and within walking distance of downtown (though a steep climb back up) and the Community Forest with its great trails. The house and kitchen have many amenities and the house is very nicely decorated. It is very pleasant to sit out on the deck. One thing to note, the house is right above the Community Forest's Redwood Park and in the summer there are camp groups there during the week. It can be very noisy several times of the day, and might wake you up in the morning.
The house needs to improve in these areas:
-The beds are soft and not comfortable for that reason if you prefer a firm mattress.
-The kitchen lacks decent frying pans. We were there two weeks and needed to cook. The old cheap teflon should be replaced immediately.
-We had quite a few ants the first few days on the counter and in the pantry. The persisted the entire time but in fewer numbers.
-We had confusion with our reservation and had to leave a day earlier very abruptly when the cleaning person arrived. I had requested a check out date because it was available in their online system. However, I was not given this date and it was not called to my attention either via a personal e-mail or phone call that the reservation was not what I had requested. The management company needed to reach out and talk to me personally. They do EVERYTHING online which is not enough.
