“Wonderful mountain getaway”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 April 2013

we found this resort just perfect! We stayed in calistoga unit 10 which slept 8. It was very clean and didn't find it dated. Very comfortable, cozy and rustic feel which made it perfect for the mountains. The staff was very kind and helpful. The kitchen was fully stocked and plenty of towels with a towel exchange mid week. Washer/dryer was helpful too. Reserved parking spot for each unit. We took day trips to San Francisco (3 hrs away) and Sacramento ( 2 hrs). Clubhouse was closed but not a problem for our 4 kids since they had electronics, movies, books and day trips. Big Trees Market was big and well priced. Eating tips: Bristols for breakfast, sequoia woods country club on Thursday nights for dinner. In murphys, pizza plus had great pizza. Ironstone winery is beautiful and has the largest gold nugget and the mercer caverns were amazing. We loved this trip and area!!

The cabin was really not too bad for the price. Granted it was a bit dated but fairly well maintained. It is also roomier than other newer ones I have stayed in. Kitchen have most of the equipment you would need to prepare a nice home cooked meal. Plenty of towels in the bathroom but some of the toiletries are missing (no shampoo or conditioner?) Linens are clean and the sofa sleeper was reasonably comfy despite being a little springy.

No issues with check-in or check out. Wouldn't mind staying again in the future.

Mt. Retreat is the best vacation spot in the sierras. We come every year and always love it. There are many things to do in the area as well. The service at Mt. Retreat is amazing and the staff are so kind and work very hard. Our room is always in pretty good shape and the best part of the resort is the Rec. Center, hopefully it will be finished soon though, we realy miss being able to enjoy the amenities of it. Once agian, the staff, especially the front desk staff are wonderful.

I'm still in the middle of my stay. I can't speak to value because we are here as guests of family with a timeshare, but I was just woken up at 6:50am by heavy construction equipment rumbling by just outside my window. The AC doesn't work because of serious electrical problems, so all of our windows are open trying to take advantage of the evening coolness. Yesterday, we couldn't enjoy the deck due to the construction, but at least that was after 9am when many are out enjoying the bountiful activities in this area. They try to keep up on maintenance requests, bu if every condo has as many issues as ours, it's no wonder they can't keep up.

Mountain Retreat units are very large, 2 bedroom, time share. This is the place to go if you like wild life, hiking or just being in a wooded setting. Plenty to do within a short driving distance. Besides 25 wineries in Murphys there are caves, old towns, shops and much more. In winter there is skiing. Don't miss the chunk of gold on display at Ironstone Winery. Big Trees park is great and just 3 miles away.

I don't think you will ever find nicer, more helpful, employees than at Mountain Retreat. Say high to Greg, Sheila, Rachael, Karen and anyone I left out...

We own 7 weeks and exchange some with RCI. Mountain Retreat units are larger and nicer than most exchanges.

DON'T EVER STAY HERE!!! For the last five years my family has stayed at Mountain Retreat for a annual golf tournament we hold for my brother. Mountain Retreat has continually made a mess out of our reservations. The only reason we have continued to stay is because if is across the street from the Country Club, so walking back and forth to take care of business for the tournament was easy. This year we experienced the straw that broke the camels back. When we checked in on Friday, my cousin, who was staying two nights and has a 10 day old baby, was told she and her husband were going to need to move their second night. Anyone that has ever had a baby knows the amount of "stuff" a new mother needs to carry with her. Not once did they offer to help. My mother, aunt, and I, who were staying three nights, were told we needed to move our second night. On Saturday morning we woke up to roofers banging on the roof at 7:45 am.

After experiencing this first thing in the morning I was done! I walked down to the office to speak with the manager on duty. Unfortunately, anyone who knew anything had taken the weekend off. They left the facilities manager in charge. I let him know that I was not only sick and tired of the way we had been treated, but by no means were any of us moving condos. About an hour later he knocked on our cabin door and said that my cousin didn't need to move, but we still needed to move on Sunday. I quickly told him that we had made our reservations 13 months ago. We requested a certain condo that we were not given, we were promised a price break because of the disaster the year before, had woken up to roofers at 7:45 am - we were not moving. Obviously unaware of how to deal with customers he told me that the people that were suppose to check in on Sunday were kind enough to wait until Monday. This is when I reminded him that it wasn't my problem that they overbooked - I wasn't moving.

I will NEVER stay at Mountain Retreat again. They are rude, overbook, and don't have any consideration for their guests or their comfort. In addition to the disaster with our reservations the floors are FILTHY! If you walk around with no shoes your socks or feet will quickly become black from the disgusting dirt on the carpets.

DO NOT STAY HERE - YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!

Room Tip: The best option would be to choose a different accommodation!

Always a great place to go. Full kitchen with everything you need. Fireplace, balconies, laundry insuite. Close to big trees state park, ski resort, caverns, golf, wine tasting. We love the indoor pool and other fun stuff to do at the club house. Can't wait to go again.
