“What a great place....”

We fled another terrible B&B in Murphys and were lucky to find this wonderful B&B. The landscaping is lovely, the building is spacious and new. You are greeted in the atrium living area by the very nice owners (Doreen and husband Kirk). The rooms are large, comfortable, and well furnished with two upholstered chairs, king bed, gas fireplace, satellite TV and glass doors opening up into the lovely gardens and outside eating areas. The sound proofing is good (a wedding at a neighbor's house had music but it was only minimally heard while in the room). Over breakfast of nut-crusted French toast w/ blueberries and bananas, fresh juice you can read one of three newspapers. I finished up the paper on the outdoor swing. Everything was sparkling clean with an eye towards guest comfort (robes in the closet which is unusual for a B&B, an ice machine). There's an outdoor spa as well as the indoor whirlpool tub so bring a swimming suit. I would definitely return to this B&B while in the area. This inn is a delight and everything you expect a B&B to be.

New to the bed and breakfast idea and didn't know what to expect. Arrived after hours and found ourselves in a very comfortable room with a nice big bed and clean bathroom. Woke up to a great breakfast. The hosts Doreen and Kirk are very nice. The Inn is very close to Big Trees State Park where we went and did a 6 mile loop to look at old growth Sierra Redwoods and then spent the rest of the day in a nice river. Upon returning to the Inn they had set out cheese, crackers, and wine which was a nice way to unwind. Overall felt very spoiled.

What a wonderful experience it was staying at the Black Bear Inn. The owners and their team were so attentive, friendly and helpful, and the facilities were the best I've seen of a B&B in years.

The Black Bear Inn is the perfect place to relax and still enjoy what the Sierra Nevada's have to offer. The Inn is quiet and calm, and centrally located to all the best activities this area has to offer.

This was our first stay at the Black Bear Inn. But we're hoping to make it back in both winter and summer for many years to come.

  • Liked — The staff was wonderful and very, very helpful
  • Disliked — Not enough comfortable outdoor patio furniture to enjoy and relax in their beatiful location

We thoroughly enjoyed our 2 days at the Black Bear Inn. We had a group of nine people, and everyone was delighted with this Inn. Everything is newly built, so clean, and gorgeous. The beds are extremely comfortable. There is a lot of love and attention to detail from the staff and owners of this inn. The homemade breakfast, made from scratch, was delicious, and is included with the room. The grounds are lush. Our three children loved running around the grounds and sitting in the hottub.

This is a lovely place with close proximity to so many interesting places. We walked the trail at North Grove of Calaveras Big Trees State park, which is only a few miles away. We also tried the new ziplining at Moaning Caverns, which was great. Our kids also enjoyed the panning for gems at the Moaning Caverns.

This was a very special vacation. I highly recommend this Inn.
