This place is not much to look at from the outside. It's set in a strip mall and has temporary signage all over the place. There are some tables on the patio out front, but it is on the main street so there is lots of traffic noise. A waitress was sitting at one of the tables smoking cigarettes.

I was pleasantly surprised by the inside. It was clean and decorated tastefully. On the downside, they where playing 80's pop music and there was a television mounted on the wall that was turned on with the news playing.

The menu is very extensive and well put together. I ordered the sushi dinner which included 8 different pieces of sushi, miso soup, and a small dinner salad. The soup was about a degree above lukewarm, the salad was fresh and served with a sesame-type dressing. The sushi was OK. It was cut crooked and kind of thick and some of it wasn't as fresh as it could be. The 8 pieces were all alone on a large plate, like they were trying to make it look bigger or something.

My wife had a Highway 101 roll. It was mediocre. It was kind of sweet and seemed to be overly presented, kind of like a person that wears too much bling.

This was my first time here and given that it has good reviews, I might go back to try something different. Hopefully it will be better.

Went to Toshi's with my girlfriend we had the garlic edamame it was so yummy. It has a lot of garlic so I order half the garlic. We ordered the OMG roll which is my favorite. It has albacore, crab, seaweed and rice with crunchy onions on top and yummy sauce on top.
We asked Melissa to suggest something she suggested the Neptune roll with yellowtail tuna. Great suggestion..It also had a yummy sauce a little spicy but very flavorful.John prepared our sushi he is also the owner. What a great sushi chef.Pauline was our server she did a great job very friendly.Melissa does a fantastic job she is the best and she really cares about the customers and she wants everyone to be happy with their experience at Toshi's.Always love when she is working.

Nice ambience, cozy with great sushi rolls and prices. Pros - Loved the garlic edamame, the roll options were fantastic with over 2 menu pages and the roll servings were a good value (big, more than 6 pieces and good quality fish). They seemed to have a steady clientele as they were on a 1st name basis with many of their customers, which says a lot. Cons - live in Orange County so can't make this a weekly spot. I've tried most of the sushi restaurants in Paso and this was better.

IMHO, the best sushi in SLO county right now. Is it world class? I've had sushi in Tokyo and can say no, but it's still pretty damn good. And they have some of the friendliest, most helpful wait staff in the area. If you're one of those sushi gluttons (you know who you are) who runs up monstrous bills, please note that Toshi's still offers all-you-can-eat sushi for lunch Mon - Sat (last I heard it was $25 or $30, depending on whether you wanted access to all of the more exotic ingredients on their menu or not). One demerit for the preponderance of mayonnaise-based rolls, but you can always find your way to something you'll like. Kudos for the huge, thick Tokyo-sized slices of fish used in many of their offerings. Possibly the happiest restaurant in the county.
