When Auburn residents Michael and Katy Cabe began planning to open a cafe, they wanted a place that was friendly and cheerful. It's a place where lovely artwork hangs on the walls and its a place where they feature amanteur "open mike" night on Thursdays and live band music on Friday nights.
Cabe's in Auburn has a unique spot. Many years ago is used to be a Public Pub. It has lots of charm. It has only been open since Decembe of 2012. The coffee is brewed the French Press Method. It makes for a delicious cup of coffee. Everything on the menu had an intriguing name which included a very thorough explanation of what was in the sandwich or panini. For example: "Lose Yourself" was an oven roasted turkey, crisp bacon, pepperoncini (if you like it hot), tomato, lettuce, red onions, and whipped cheese on San Franciscan sourdough. Price was reasonable at $7.25. They are all very accomodating and you can add or subtract from your sandwich choice. The menu is extensive which includes soup and salads. They are open very early in the AM so they have an extensive menu of choices like a breakfast burrito with this fascinating name: "Drops of Jupiter" which is eggs, cheese, red peppers and onions grilled quesadilla style. You are missing out on a great place. It is getting quite a reputation. It's get rather crowded in the early mornings.

The cappacino was decent but almost all the people that worked there had nasty attitudes. Only the guy working in the kitchen was polite. It was uncomfortably hot too.

Since my original review, I've visited this coffee house regularly and have discovered a couple of things. For starters, it's their only location because they shut down the bakery location on the other side of town to concentrate on this location and it's paying off. The music, art on the walls, calm smiling faces creates a great ambiance that makes me love going back. I've had a breakfast sandwich, which was just over $6 and split it with my friend because it was so big. It was some of the best restaurant food I've had. Also, they have added sweet rolls that are gluten and dairy free and taste great for just over $3. Small coffee and tea are reasonable priced at under $2. Still a great place and getting better!

The inside is triangle shaped with the long part of the room against the windows facing the street. There is a quaint view of downtown Auburn and it's bright and airy inside. They have reasonably priced organic decaf coffee, so they won me over right away. They also make lunches under $5 and Katie and her staff are delightful. Roomy patio outside. Even though they don't have their own tables yet, there are public places to sit at the nearest corner. The owners also have a bakery in a different part of town. I'd like to see them bring in some of their own pastries or bring in baked goods from Hilda's (a block down the street). This chic new coffee house and Hilda's Bakery do a lot to class up the area and make it worth going to!
