OK -- let me start by saying that I have eaten at Ikeda's for probably more than 20+ years -- it is the "go-to" place for a burger or grilled sandwich for lots of people who both reside in the area and for those who have discovered it as a place worth jumping off Hwy 80 on your way to or from the Tahoe/Reno run --- although the burgers and sandwiches are adequately good, I would say that the grill isn't what it used to be -- so try something outside the box like one of their Teriyaki or Thai rice bowls which has either chicken or beef and some stir-fried veggies with good sauces (tell them to go LIGHT on the teriyaki sauce, but let them hit you hard with the Thai sweet-chili sauce) -- so now that you've had your fast-food lunch without going into a fast-food chain -- move to the adjacent fruit stand and store to get to the heart of what Ikeda's is all about...

I said Pie Heaven in the title -- that's because this place produces about 500-600 fruit pies and cobblers daily in 16 different types of variations and flavors. They seem to be baking all day in the back of the store -- so you definitely are going to catch a whiff of fresh baked pie when you walk in -- and most likely -- when you pick your pie box up to carry to the counter the bottom of the box is going to still be warm -- that's how fresh these suckers are... If you are game for the fairly tame but tasty and traditional apple -- they are still going to make you choose which type (plain double-crusted; Dutch; or French toppings); Going to loosen up a bit? They have cherry; blueberry and peach. Want to go deep into your pie depths? Try the Marionberry or the Strawberry-Rhubarb. Just so you know -- Ikeda's has a second restaurant/store in Davis -- so if you're going home to the Bay Area and you passed the Foresthill exit in Auburn and get all the way down to Sacramento and THEN wish you had stopped -- you have a second chance to get off Hwy 80 in Davis and get a fix. Google it on your smartphone for directions. The pies are $16-$18 -- but will beat the snot out of one of those $39 mail-order pies you got at Harry & David....

Also -- the store in Auburn is full of LOTS of other things to fill your cooler and drop your cash on and make your belly and brain happy once you get it home. Be sure to hit the salsa/dip bar where they have a multitude of spreads/salsas/dips/toppings for you to sample on tortilla chips provided; a great selection of gourmet items like cheeses; nuts; wines; jams and jellies; BBQ sauces; candies and snacks; fresh produce; a dairy cooler; etc -- they strive to provide high quality products so expect to pay a higher price for that quality.

This place is popular and busy at lunchtime almost everyday from about 11A-2P -- so the parking lot gets busy and fills up with lots of distracted and hungry people who can get careless with their car doors; strollers; etc -- so if you're driving a pristeen high-end ride parallel park on the side street below the parking lot between the motel across the street or at the far east end of the parking lot to avoid door dings and scratches --

“Tasty burgers”
Reviewed 3 October 2013

Went there once during our stay in Auburn, and their burgers were really good. Can't go wrong with Ikeda's when you're a bit peckish!

“Ikeda's not just for burgers and pie”
Reviewed 5 September 2013

I do enjoy a slice of pie now and then but for me happiness is finding the Lemon Bars at the back of the market. Just the right amount of sweet to tart lemon heaven. I also enjoy the coffee they sell called Sierra Blend. For us the market is the real draw, some of the best unexpected items can be found here. Nuts, fish, meats, dried fruits, hot peppers and sauces. The fruit can be great depending on the season, the breads especially the cinnamon loaf and...I'm going to stop, you should check this out for yourself, Ikeda's has something for everyone.

“Highly overrated!”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

After reading all the great reviews by other advisors, I thought it was overrated after eating there today. The chicken pot pie and all the berry pies are excellent, but are you willing to pay $16.99 for a start for the berry pies? There were rave reviews for the teriyaki burger, but I did not like it. I would stay as simple as possible to get the flavor of a real burger. The onion rings were good, but you only get 6 pieces for $3.99. We wanted the marionberry slice of pie a la mode, but they didn't have any so we got a dutch apple instead. It was good like all the reviews said, but for being in a business of selling pies, why didn't they have the marionberry slice? They were selling the whole pie.....couldn't they just cut one of those whole pies up? I would go again, and try one more time but ordering something totally different. The chicken pot pie had a lot of chicken in it and the crust was good. That was $6.99 for a 6" diameter pie. They have shop next door and the fruit especially the peaches are excellent.

“Lunch and pie”
Reviewed 19 May 2013

We usually stop here on our way home from the Bay Area. We love the tall pies and sometimes stop just for that. This time we ate at the burger restaurant and were not disappointed. We had great burgers. However he fries were just so so. Also the place was jammed as it was a Sunday and it always makes me feel a little claustrophobic since the aisles are so small.
