We visited in November, as the weather cooled. We found the hotel rooms to be quite updated with luxurious touches such as the high sunroof in the bathroom, glass shower and rotating flatscreen TV. There is a library of DVDs to borrow for in-room viewing. Everything is very clean. There are less than 10 rooms and two suites (with ocean views), and a unique indoor/outdoor atrium which serves as the hallway. Great customer service and they will hold your baggage until your ship departs. One of the closest hotels to the boat dock and pier, where most attractions are centered. Note that the hotel is on the third floor and there is no elevator. One of the best restaurants in Avalon (Steve's Steakhouse) is on the second floor.

Room Tip: Only the two suites have an ocean view. They have a semi-private patio that is adjacent to the outdoor lobby.

Hands down best experience we have had!!!. Hotel very clean, beautiful view from the lobby. Went with my family and loved the milk and cookies at night. Hotel was soo comfortable and beautifully done. Staff was amazing always went all out to make your stay comfortable. Definitely will always try to stay here. We booked the fall special stayed one night but totally worth it. I was a little unsure due to little pricey but my husband and son didn't want to leave. Definitely worth it. We got there early room was not ready due to checkout time but once they had the room done they called us up and great service all the way through. This place is a great experience from romantic getaway to quick little family vacation they accommodate it all. Can't wait to come back.

I found this charming hotel on a website dedicated to lodging and restaurants on Catalina Island. After combing through several other hotels & reviews, I came across Vista Del Mar (VDM) and their fall special. I promptly booked a room for two nights for our wedding anniversary and completely surprised my wife. She couldn't believe how nice the rooms were and likened the experience to staying in a bed & breakfast. With the intimate feel, proximity to the beach, size of the rooms (the fireplace of course being her favorite amenity), milk & cookies and a helpful staff (thanks Alex), she spent Thanksgiving weekend gushing to her family and pointing out photos of VDM online.

Room Tip: This is a small hotel, and only the suites have the balcony overlooking the ocean. There are no bad rooms in this hotel.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights a couple weeks ago and I have to say that upon arriving we were very reluctant about staying in the Ocean View Suite or the hotel in general because the prices seemed a little steep but once we arrived we got first class service. Our room wasn't ready due to check out at 11 so the hotel held our bags for us and put them in the room when it was available so that we could explore and enjoy ourselves on the island. They made sure to call us as soon as the room was ready and walked us to our room. The room was gorgeous! It had a nice fireplace and huge bed and jacuzzi tub. I'm used to having tiny jacuzzi tubs in rooms and this one was big enough for four people, so we definitely enjoyed it and had very relaxing evenings. The bed was so comfortable that we didn't want to get out of it in the morning. They also have snacks and a wet bar in the room, that you have to pay for but it was all VERY reasonable. I do think however that the room should have included a complimentary bottle of champagne for the price we paid (especially since it was our anniversary and I told them that upon reservation). We had a great view from our private balcony. I was a tiny bit dissapointed though only because all we had was a curtain for privacy and had people stick their heads in a couple of times. I would have expected a wall or something more private but it was still great regardless. The staff was amazing and very helpful. They gave us recomendations for so many great things to do and places to eat. The hotel was also in a great location. Very easy to locate, and only minutes away from the ferry. Plus it was close to all of the fun bars and shops. Our overall stay at the hotel was wonderful and we will definitely be back! It was also great that the hotel held our bags until we were ready to leave the island because check out was at 11am and our ferry didn't head out till 4:30pm so we had plenty of time to do an "adventure tour" and eat and have a last few drinks without hauling our luggage everywhere which was very convenient. Thank you Hotel Vista Del Mar for making our trip so relaxing and stress free! We will be definitely be back!
