“Courtyard Building - Quiet, serene. low key”
Reviewed 2 June 2013

This review applies only to the courtyard building of the Hotel Catalina which is actually a separate building just down the hill from the main building, Each room may be different in so be sure to check out with questions. We did and got exactly what we requested.

1 - We were on the first floor with a room that faced a nice small courtyard. The setting was very quiet and almost secluded. The room and courtyard were quite clean.

2- This building is slightly off the main street and rooms are inside so we had no traffic noise .

3- The first and second floor of the building can be reached without a flight of stairs which we appreciated after walking in town . be sure to ask about stairs in any Avalon hotel if this is an issue for you.

4 Distances are short in avalon so its an easy walk from the boat landing with rolling bags to the hotel even though it is on the far end from the docks.

5- The room was decent size and larger than rooms at some of the other hotels we checked out when we were there. Many lights in the room , even ceiling spotlight to read in bed from.

6 The bathroom layout was nice a sink and a makeup area and a large jacuzzi tub nice tile floor, Plenty of lighting here as well.

7 The hotel was right across the street from a nice coffee house which we liked because we enjoy espresso and pastry in the am.

8 - Furnishings are in a retro style, the bed was comfy and the air and ceiling fan worked quietly.

The hotel served its purpose. I personally liked the courtyard to sit out in after our day and before we walked to dinner.

Room Tip: We were in a center room which had a larger window and on the ground floor of the courtyard buildin...

My husband and I with two of our friends went to Avalon on a Tuesday and did a turn around the next day. Hotel Catalina Cottages is reasonable, especially when your on a budget. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Everything is a 10-15 min walk. Also you receive a 10% discount on a few restaurant. The atmosphere is very peaceful, you actually feels like your 1000s of miles away. Hotel Catalina is convintaley located, charming, and peaceful. It reminds you of another era. I would definitely recommend Hotel Catalina

Room Tip: Think Cottage with friends or two couples on a budget

I stayed with a friend in this hotel May 2013. We couldn't have asked for better accommodations. The employees we so helpful and extremely friendly. The room was great too. There was even complimentary donuts and coffee every morning! Our whole experience was fantastic. We will definitely stay there again!

First of all they were one of the only hotels that did not make me adhere to a two night minimum. Then when I walked up I couldn't be happier with the outside. Easy to find and get to and a lovely, quaint, clean place. The staff were all so accommodating and friendly. I had my granddaughter there for the first time and we will go back. Thank you Hotel Catalina.

We had a rough ride on the ferry and were so happy that they let us check in early! We stayed in the newer building, so we didn't get the classic charm but the room was spacious and we had a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower. The room has a large flat screen tv but the location is so close to all the shops and restaurants you'll only be in the room to shower and sleep. PS the bed is very comfy.

If you are looking for a really modern, up to date hotel, with pool, bar, and other ameninties, this hotel is not for you. However, if you are in the mood for a quiet, relaxing, vintage, turn of the century hotel - this is definitely the place. The decor, both inside and out is definitely turn of the century. My room was small, but very nice, and comfortable. I found the staff very helpfull, and friendly. The hotel is a very short walk to the beach, restaurants, shops, and attractions. Walk to the store, buy some wine, take it back to your room, sit on the veranda, and enjoy the breeze and views! The bathroom was a little small (Munchkin size), but ok. They do offer cottages which I would recommend for families. The patio area does have a small jacuzzi. Donuts, coffee, and juice are available each morning. There are several restaurants very close to the hotel that serve full breakfasts. I really enjoyed my stay, and would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Higher floors have more exposure to the evening breezes - there are no elevators.

We stayed in the courtyard villas area of the hotel. The room was amazing. My fiance loved the bathroom because it had a nice shower and a huge garden tub with jets. The bed was soo comfortable that we had to ask for a late checkout. It had a better tv than the one I have at home. The donuts for breakfast were fresh and the coffee was good. Everything was very clean, no stinky cigarette odors like most places. I had planned this trip to ask my girlfriend to marry me (and she said yes!) and Martha set us up with a great room at a great rate. Thank you so much for your help! We will definitely be back again and would love to have room 501 again.

Room Tip: The courtyard villas rooms are all newly remodeled and were very quiet.
