The hotel was recommended by a friend. We were very pleased with where the hotel was located and the price was the best on the island. The front desk and housekeeping was very helpful and friendly, we even watched them mop the front patio bricks. Our room was very nice and the sun deck was great when you wanted to relax. The only thing I could recommend because it is an older but updated hotel would be to have a portable fan in the room. The windows and doors do not have screens to allow you to leave them open and it would be helpful with air circulation. There are room air conditioner and heaters however, if you leave them on they click on and off to reach the temperature you want which can be noisy. The portable fan would drown out any sliding glass door opening of people coming in and out. That was not a deal breaker, it was very minimal noise and a great place to stay. We will be staying here again when we return. It was a quaint little hotel right near it all. Thank you it was a great great trip!

This was our second trip to Catalina, and our second stay at Hotel Portofino. I would not stay at any other place. It is a bit pricey, but if in your budget or you just want to splurge on the best, this hotel is worth every cent. You must get a room or suite with a view of the bay. We stayed in the Villa de Este suite and the Portofino suite (has balcony). The continental breakfast was superb and plentiful. Breakfast on your veranda while watching the colors of the sunrise is THE BEST! Nothing is more romantic to wake up to! The Hotel staff, Wendy, Janet and Luis could not have been nicer nor more helpful and accommodating. This is the place to stay. It is in the heart of the Crescent Bay, a short walk north to the historic Casino and south to the pier and the center of town. I could not give it a better review! Sharon D., West LA, CA

Room Tip: See my remarks above: The Portofino or Villa de Este suites.

We stayed for 2 nights in the Bella Vista room. I cannot imagine anything more perfect or better descriptive words. Coffee on the balcony with a magnificent view, comfy bed and beautifully decorated room. It wasn't the largest room on our vacation, however, it was our favorite.
The hotel is just steps from the beach, shopping, and anyplace we wanted to go. It was a splurge for us, but we were more frugal on most of the trip to make up for it and it was sooo worth it.

This hotel is perfectly situated near the end of Crescent, past the noisy bars and restaurants. It is so peaceful and quaint. The staff and customer care was impeccable. They allowed us generous priviledges after we checked out which was nice because our boat did not leave unitl 7 p.m. Only one complaint is the bed in #107 was too firm for us, and we had some loud neighbors above us. We could hear them talking, walking, and the shower. Plus the room backs up to the street so expect noise from pedestrians and vehicles. The rooms are very, very clean too. Overall, very pleasant stay, but would not stay in #107 again. Perhaps try another upgraded room with an interior location and upstairs.

This hotel is right across the street from the harbor, and boasts a roof top deck with cabanas, and tables and chairs. The management encourages guests to go on up, take your glass of wine, and enjoy the view. The accommodations are decent and the price is reasonable. The unexpected bonus was a nice continental breakfast in the morning.

Check out time is noon, but management is clear that we are welcome to enjoy the roof top deck, the lobby bathroom, and the ice water kept in the lobby, until time for our ferry back to the mainland.

We really loved this hotel. The room (Deluxe King) was a nice room, quite and comfortable. The staff were very warm and friendly, willing to assist with any need. We ate dinner at the Italian restaurant next door and it was excellent. We also loved the sun deck on top, which allowed us a beautiful view of the Avalon Bay. Thanks for a great stay!

I have not been to Avalon in years and really relied on the reviews of several hotels before deciding on Hotel Villa Portofino. I was not disappointed. First and foremost, the staff at the hotel are the nicest people and really very accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable and very nicely done. The roof top patio had wonderful views and was a great place to relax, though the chair cushions were not in the best shape.. The location was perfect - being at the end of the block there was not a lot of outside traffic noise. I highly recommend the Hotel Villa Portofino. Thank you for your hospitality!
