We spent Labor Day week on Catalina Island and had a great time! It was an easy 10-15 minute walk from the Catalina Express ferry landing to the hotel. The hotel staff was very nice and accommodating during our stay. Our room #207 was on the second floor and had a king size bed, coffee maker and small fridge that was nice to have.

There is no elevator so if you need help with your luggage just let the hotel staff know when you check in. The only small issue was the room was a bit dark. There was only one window and a sliding glass door that also had a wood shutter panel. We weren't in the room that much during the day but when we were we kept the sliding door open to let fresh air and light in. We were right near the rooftop patio and that was a plus for this hotel. It was a good spot to have a glass of wine and enjoy the amazing view of the harbor. There wasn't any wine glasses in the room but the front desk was very agreeable in providing them for us to use when I asked them.

Another big plus, is that the hotel's restaurant, VP, is the "best" restaurant on the island in our opinion. We ate here twice for dinner - the food and service was excellent. We would have enjoyed lunch here but unfortunately they are only open for dinner. The VP restaurant has a small outdoor patio where you can sit at the tables when you are having the continental breakfast that the hotel provides. The hotel's small front lobby is also where you can get coffee, OJ, muffins/croissants/scones available in the morning. The hotel location is at the quieter end of the main street. It's next to a lovely walkway to the Casino/Theater and Descaso Beach (where people can swim) . There is a Von's grocery store and Metropole cafe/deli that is around the corner from hotel and nearby is Big Olafs ice cream - the best place for homemade waffle ice cream cones.

We would stay here again.

Online pictures make the room look more luxurious than it actually is. The staff was pleasant and we had no problems. Our suite was oceanfront but the morning traffic was rather noisy. Of course, the hotel is not to blame for that. Just a trade-off because it's situated on the main street.

My wife and I booked this trip for our 2 year anniversary. it was by far the best choice. The hotel room was a little small for the price, but the kindness of ALL of the staff was above and beyond. I would defintately reccomend! We didn't get a room with a water front view, but there is a sun deck with PLENTY of space to lay out. We bacame regulars on this trip. Thank you Villa Portofino for making our stay fantastic!

We just stayed there for our 25th anniversary and couldn't have asked for a nicer staff! They were so kind and friendly! Our room was ready right when our boat docked at 11am, and when we went to check out the gentleman at the front desk offered to let us use the property and hold our bags until our boat left at 4:30pm. The courtyard is charming and the deck has the most beautiful view of the harbor! The only downside was the fact that our room had two windows right on the street level which made it a little noisy with the cars going by, and our neighbors above us were very early risers who liked their TV, but despite those two little things we will always choose this hotel when we come back to the island! We have already recommended this hotel to friends and family and can't wait to come back!!!!!

Such a cozy, charming hideaway in the tradition of small European hotel hospitality! Next to all the great shops and restaurants. Only feet from the beautiful water and views.....away from the noise and crowds of the island while still in the heart of it. The VP staff greet you warmly and facilitate anything you need. Everything is clean, fresh and tidy. Sipping champagne on VP's deck, enjoying a great meal at the restaurant or walking steps to the little beach makes everything wonderful.

Great staff, great view and an outstanding restaurant as well. Choose one of the larger rooms (as we did) for guaranteed comfort and vistas. Though ALL rooms are clean and well-attended, it is the larger rooms that are well worth your vacation budget. Larger rooms at Villa Portofino costs a little more than the average Avalon hotel accommodations, but we got what we paid for: privacy, beauty, comfort and friendly high-quality service. The hotel's location on the beachfront, and at the end of the main street, guarantee soul-feeding views and a much more relaxing feel than those in the heart of town. Dinner at the Villa Portofino was magnifico! I have already recommended the hotel to friends who plan to visit next month.

I recently stayed at the Hotel Villa Portofino and was very impressed by the hotel room and the staff. The room was elegant and cozy and we loved it! The staff was more than helpful and very courteous and made our stay that much better... we decided that we will make a yearly trip to Catalina, maybe 2, and will definitely stay at this hotel again!!! I would definitely recommend this hotel!!!
