“We didn't want to leave!”
Reviewed 3 September 2013

My husband and I stayed here for a belated honeymoon, and we didn't want to leave! The room was so cozy. The bed was really comfortable - so much that it was hard to leave, but I couldn't resist spending as much time as I could exploring the island. The hotel was so centrally located that we walked everywhere! There was no need to take a taxi or rent a golf cart unless we wanted to explore further inland. We can't wait to go back, and when we do we'll definitely be staying at the Catalina Island Inn!

Thanks for your kind comments about Catalina Island Inn. We love sharing our island paradise with our guests! Yes, it is a dilemma to between choose in-room comfort or outdoor adventures and activities. We hope you had enough of both! Congratulations on your marriage and may the "honeymoon" continue! We hope you'll plan an anniversary return trip to Catalina! -Jenn

I stayed for three nights in Room 308. It is advertised as a nonview room, but just over the rooftops of the Von's and the next building is a view of the water, great for seeing the sunrise.

You cannot beat the hotel for convenience. It is within walking distance of everything on the island.

Yes, the shower is small, but workable. They keep the hotel incredibly clean. The rooms are carpeted, but they use some sort of super vacuums to get up any sand.

My biggest criticism of the hotel is the breakfast. The pastries are all loaded with sugar and fat. They provided instant oatmeal, but only in flavors - apple cinnamon (dried apples and sugar), maple and brown sugar (sugar and sugar), and cinnamon spice (cinnamon and sugar). During my stay, there was strawberries every morning and apples available throughout the day.

Room Tip: Rooms 307, 308, 309, and 310 should have similar views of the water. I meant to take a picture of t...

Thanks for your review of the Catalina Island Inn. We are grateful to have you acknowledge our staff who work diligently to keep every part of the hotel in excellent condition even with summer's sand and sometimes soggy situations. Our continental breakfast with Danish pastries, oatmeal and fruit is an option which most of our guests enjoy. If "sweets" aren't your "cup of tea"--- Von's Grocery is right next door and restaurants abound within 1-2 blocks of the hotel. We look forward to your next visit to the Catalina Island Inn.

The hotel is kept up nicely. Just a few things to note. One, on their website we were given the impression that the rooms had hardwood floors. The (very small) queen room we stayed in did not - it had a basic carpet. Two, the doors have very poor locks on them and we could not lock the deadbolt lock from the outside, so the only lock to secure our room was the old lock on the door handle, and we had to pull hard on the door to get the door to close, and it barely engaged the door lock into the door jam. A good shove on the door and anyone would have been able to get the door open. Three, the bathroom was extremely small and the sink to wash your hands was on the other side of the room. The cold water handle did not work - the handle woudn't turn at all so we only had hot water available to us. Four, even though the hotel advertises they serve pastries (a continental breakfast) don't plan on eating there. They hardly put any out and what they do put out is stale. Plusses - there is a small Von's right next to the hotel. The hotel itself is charming and they do appear to work hard to keep it looking nice. My overall rating would be 3 1/2 stars, or "Good", but TripAdvisor doesn't give "Good" as a choice - their rating goes from Average to Very Good. This hotel falls in between those ratings.

Thank you for your review. We do not have hardwood floors in any of the rooms of the hotel and each type of accommodation is shown in our website's "experience the Inn" and "room photos ". The amenities are also listed in detail. As to the deadbolt and door lock questions, we are always happy to assist guests with such issues during your stay. We encourage our visitors to notify the front office or housekeeping staff immediately whenever there is a problem or question. Our selection of continental breakfast items is fresh daily. We work hard to provide the best possible service and care for everyone who stays at the Catalina Island Inn. We hope you'll visit us again.

Just a lovely place to stay! Gorgeous interior, friendly and helpful staff, free wireless, on-site massage (tho we didn't use it), great location.

We got a partial ocean view, so could see a sliver of the ocean over the rooftops which was nice. Room small but cozy, arranged supremely functional.

Only small negative was that we could hear the Vons air conditioner hum all night, though it was not really loud and did provide white noise to drown out any street/reveler noise.

We stayed on the first floor in a newly renovated King room. The price was $350 per night. The room was very clean and well decorated, including a gas-burning fireplace. There was a private patio with awning which we took advantage of for eating our breakfast. Since our room was at the back end of the hotel, it was very quiet, in comparison to the reviews of other rooms. We had no trouble sleeping. The one thing I was disappointed in was the quality of the linens. They were rough. I actually removed the pillowcase because it was so uncomfortable.

Breakfast is not really breakfast, but overly sweetened baked goods and orange juice. And maybe a bowl of fruit. The building is not set up for a breakfast buffet.

The staff ranged in helpfulness and attitude, but we didn't find any egregious behavior, and the young gentleman who checked us in was delightful. I believe his name is Juan.

The hotel will store your luggage for you after you check out, which is great if you are catching a later ferry off the island.

Room Tip: If you can afford the newly renovated first floor rooms, they are your best choice, judging from oth...

This hotel was a good compromise between comfortable amenities (except conditioner - ladies with long thick hair - bring your own!). I guess the down side was that the partial view was a view of the Hotel Metropole and the room of the Vons market. If you looked to the very right, you had a view of the city and houses on the hill. But...for the price it was good considering how expensive every other hotel is on the Island.

Everyone was very very nice - and made us feel instantly at home. They made accommodations for our luggage because we had a later boat and that was a lifesaver.
