“Excellent Hotel!”

What a great place to stay. Very quaint, not a big box hotel feel. Beautiful garden patio with koi pond and firepit. Great breakfast included with the stay. Rooms are nice, tempurpedic beds, flatscreens. One side of the hotel has huge patios with the rooms. One of the best boutique hotels I have stayed in.

Room Tip: All rooms have views. The north side rooms have larger balconies.

We picked The Hotel Avalon for a short vacation because it is TripAdvisor's number one choice for Santa Catalina Island. We stayed three nights on the mid-week winter package, and we could not have been happier. We loved the room, the bed, the toiletries, the robes, the view, the roof-top, the balcony, the fresh fruit in the lobby, the complementary water and juice, the breakfast on the patio between the koi pond and the fireplace, the binoculars we got to borrow, the lap-top we got to borrow, but most of all, we loved the staff. Everyone was not just nice -- they were FRIENDLY! We will definitely go back to Santa Catalina Island, and we wouldn't dream of staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: There are only 15 rooms. When you make your reservation, they will help you pick the best one for y...

My new fiancé and I stated there back in June ... The place was very well manicured and the staff was amazing! The bedding is very very comfy and clean! Bathrooms are vintage "new" my fiancé proposed to me on the rooftop of this hotel which has amazing views.. When the staff learned of what happen they had brought up a bucket of their finest on ice.. along with strawberries.. They also inquired where we were having our dinner for the night and They suggested somewhere a little more romantic.. And thank god they did.. They suggested a perfect place! And where we were suppose to go we passed the next day.... Umm not so much.... I appreciated their honesty and friendly demeanor! Very helpful and genuine nice good people.. I wish I could remember the managers name.. But trust me she was amazing.. My memory is no reflection of what I do remember! And that is that I look forward to my next trip.. I wouldn't stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: No fitness center... But who works out on vacation, ? :)

This Hotel was more like a spa. The people were wonderful. The Hotel was spotless! When we arrived the desk receptionist walked us to our room. Showed us around and let us know that there was water and juice in the frig and it was FREE! We've never gone anywhere when they didn't charge us for the bottled water! Also their was plenty of coffee and microwaveable popcorn! We had a garden view, which I could still see the ocean. We had breakfast on the rooftop terrace and the views were amazing! I would defiantly stay again and again!

It takes a lot for me to be inspired to take the time to write a hotel review. My wife and I just finished a 4-day/3-night trip to Catalina and we stayed at the Avalon, which we chose based primarily on very positive tripadvisor reviews. We were so happy that we did! This hotel is a half-block back from the waterfront, and slightly uphill, which provides for amazing views from the rooftop deck (4th floor) and the rooms on the 3rd floor. We stayed in the Ocean view room (301) which has a wrap-around balcony facing the waterfront and northwards, with 180 degree views from the Wrigley mansion on the right to Zane Gray's Hotel on the left, and everything in between -- the harbor, the Casino, the waterfront, dolphins and sea lions playing offshore, and the southern California coastline and mountains in the distance. I think we spent most of our trip on the balcony and rooftop, simply in awe of the unobstructed views! The owners have taken care of all the little things that make a hotel and room memorable, from the custom-made furniture to the hotel decor, the outside patio adjacent to the lobby with a koi fish pond, lots of hummingbirds and woodpeckers, and lovely tables with fire pits, right down to the wonderful soaps and shampoos. If you appreciate beautiful wooden structures and a nearly complete lack of plastic, you'll love this hotel. The continental breakfast provided on the patio was great, including granola, yogurt, bagels and muffins -- the GOOD kinds, not cheap substitutes -- and great coffee and tea from a very fancy self-serve brewing machine. An assortment of cookies, pretzels and peanuts are always available in the lobby, which made the snack-hound in me happy. Finally -- and most importantly -- the people: simply the best! Laurie, Ken, Cindy and Melissa are friendly, informative, genuine, happy to help, and made us feel right at home. If we ever return to Catalina and Avalon, it will definitely be to this hotel. PS: we had a wonderful Italian dinner at Villa Portofino hotel, right down the street at the waterfront.

Room Tip: Can't beat the views from 301 and 306. I think views from the 2nd floor rooms on facing the wate...

Good location with convenient access to all Avalon has to offer. Finishes were rich, beds were memory foam, new flat screen televisions and well-appointed, historic furnishings. The rooftop deck allows guests a unique view of Avalon as well as a relaxing place to have a drink or enjoy a rooftop picnic. The courtyard also provides a welcome respite from the surrounding neighborhood and golf carted streets as well.

A couple enjoyable details: free water, iced tea and movie library...

As frequent visitors to Avalon, we would say this hotel is the standard by which others should be measured. Minor issues included plumbing noises from the room next door and a sub-par continental breakfast. But don't let that deter you...

Room Tip: Get Room 305, ocean and city views at courtyard prices.

Spent five days at the Avalon Hotel over new years, wonderful experience, fantastic people. Rooms were perfect, very helpful staff, beautiful views from the roof top deck and great continental breakfast. Lori and Rock made our stay with them one we will not forget. Friday night guest wine/cheese tasting in the courtyard topped off our stay! Would never go anywhere else when we visit Catalina again. We flew in to the airport and everything was perfect from that point on. When it comes right down to it all most hotels have to offer is service, and the Avalon rates five stars in that department.

Thanks Lori, Rock and staff!
