I can see why this charming boutique hotel is #1 on Trip Advisor. We stayed for two nights prior to the Memorial Day weekend, and this place provided a real retreat to the hustle and bustle of the downtown area.

The Craftsman decor really brings an earthy vibe to the place. Look at their photo album and you can see the transformation of the hotel from a non-descript apartment building into the delightful place it is today.

All of the staff were very cordial. Just loved the back patio with its eloquent koi pond. We were even allowed to feed the fish ourselves, which was a real treat.

The complimentary breakfast was ample and filling. Rooftop deck showcased a sprawling view of Avalon, making it even more memorable.

I highly recommend this property.

Room Tip: The higher floors have better views.

The hotel staff is wonderful the location is excellent! This is one of the nicest hotels on Catalina especially for the price! The road it's on Whittley has a lot of golf cart traffic so the rooms off the road can be noisy of your windows and balcony door is open. But really who cares! The place is awesome

My husband and I just stayed here for 2 nights. We had a great time! We arrived early Friday morning and was lucky to have early check in. The staff was very friendly! The bed was comfortable and the room was a good size. They provide free water and drinks (fridge, microwave). We had free wine and Cheese that night on the patio. THey have the cutest patio with a nice koi pond where they serve continental breakfast every morning. They provide a beach bag with towels and you can check out chairs!. They have an amazing rooftop terrace! Love the view and it was a great place to sit and relax. The location was perfect- we walked everywhere! We stayed in room 204- nice and quiet! It over-looked the patio- no balcony and less expensive then the other rooms. Would definitely stay here again!

My husband, a SoCal native, had never visited Catalina Island so for his Birthday I booked two nights at the Avalon Hotel. What a wonderful choice that was. The staff there is the most welcoming and accomodating of any hotel we have ever stayed in. We cannot say enough about the rooms. Ellegant comes close. And it had all the little important things: soaps, salt scrubs, body butter, lotions, and shampoo branded and bottled just for the Avalon. We had champagne on the roof-top patio watching for the "supermoon" one night and the continental breakfast each morning sitting near the fire-pit drinking freshly brewed coffee. But the highlight of my visit to the Avalon was feeding the Koi swimming in the pond on the terrace. Diana gave me a handful of fish-food and as soon as I put my hand in the water it was surrounded by big, beautiful Koi who "kissed" my hand to get to the food. What a great memory of a wonderful place to stay.

Room Tip: Rooms on the 3rd floor have balconies and exquisite views. Rooms 301 and 306 have the best views.

My husband and I haven't been to Catalina in about 10 years so we were due for a visit. I checked trip advisor and discovered that The Avalon Hotel was number one. After reading all the reviews and calling for a reservation we decided on room 205. Although 205 didn't have a balcony it was less expensive, a slightly larger room and quieter. One of the best things about this hotel is that just about everything is included which is unusually nice. Included in the price was bottled water, a in room coffee machine, wifi, complimentary wine and cheese on Friday night, continental breakfast every morning and great products in the bathroom. They also offered free taxi to the hotel from the boat (although it was so nice out we walked instead!). Room 205 was very comfortable, nice king bed, refrigerator, microwave, flat screen tv, nice towels, ceramic mugs for coffee, glass wine and drinking glasses....nice. Our room had a sliding door over looking the patio and the sound of the fountain in the courtyard. We did hear a little noise from the room above us (#305) but nothing too extreme. The rooftop patio was gorgeous and it helped that the weather was so nice. The courtyard, where the breakfast is served and the Friday night wine is served was also very lovely. There is a little bit of a climb up the street from the boardwalk, and then a row of stairs to the main level so keep that in mind if you have trouble climbing. All in all a great visit. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would stay here next time.

Room Tip: We thought 205 was a good room although if you don't mind all the stair climbing 305 would proba...

We spent three relaxing, comfortable nights here and we hated to leave! Our room was large and comfortable with view of the ocean. A great continental breakfast served in a beautiful garden courtyard complete with a koi pond, fire pit, and active hummingbird feeders. Terrific desk staff too, especially Cindy. Very convenient location to harbor. Loved the tangerine sage lotions and shampoo. Elegant Craftsman decor looked like it had been there for years. Loved the little touches --- free water and Snapple in room refrigerators, 24-7 Keurig machine with lots of k-cup choices, the salt water taffy on the desk. . . .Very roomy bathroom too. We felt as though we were VIPS during our entire stay.

Room Tip: Room 201 or 301 are best rooms in house --- we stayed in 201 and had a large balcony with view of oc...
