Nice facility, close to water and to activities. Staff was very, VERY helpful. Rooms nice but small, not designed for families. Seemed over priced though.

The Avalon Hotel exceeded our expectations and delivered the best service and environment on the Island. This was a 3 day weekend get away for us (our 37th Anniversary) and our first trip to Catalina. I was a little unsure as to what to expect. However, trusting our fellow reviewers here at TA (as we have so many times in the past), we booked our room here and with a number of connections (cars, planes, cabs and ferries) we arrived late Friday afternoon. From the moment that we arrived we were treated to the most gracious and conscientious service we have experienced in our last couple of years traveling in the US. The hotel is a charming arts and crafts design with very nice appointments in the rooms and bathrooms. Our room (203) had a microwave, coffee maker and a refrigerator (not a mini bar) stocked with water and soda for our use. Additionally, we had a very nice large balcony with a view of the harbor and the Avalon casino. The hotel is very well located near the beach and the casino and close to all of the good restaurants and other attractions. Do yourself a favor. If you are coming to Catalina, you should stay here. You won’t regret it. Did I mention the breakfast? Great Euro style breakfast with lots of coffee, rolls, fruit, juices, yogurt, toast and cereals.

My fiance definitely did his homework when deciding on where to stay for my surprise trip! The Avalon Hotel was so relaxing with its wonderful spa products, soft robes, lovely balcony/ocean view and complimentry in room snacks. The Supple-pedic bed and pillows were also a nice touch to the room. We stayed in room 306 and it was just nice to sit out there with our bubbly or coffee and talk. The hotel is beautiful to look at. So many craftsman details like the tiles inlaid in the wood and the carvings of the door frames and specially made furniture and lighting. The staff was really helpful in suggesting where to go and what to do. We even had a really great conversation about the history of Avalon and celebritiy sightings from their night staffer.

We could imagine in the busy season that the area would be packed with ppl. (We are thinking that it's like our local Padre Island.) We prefer the tranquility of the low season.

I chose this hotel with a special occasion in mind. The staff, the hotel appearance, and the quality of the amenities exceeded my expectations. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and provide a wonderful setting for a great get away for any couple. Ruben and Diana the hotel staff provided excellent service and accommodated every need. They are willing and helpful with any request to ensure your stay is memorable one: from dinner reservations, luggage service, and taxi requests, to facilitating any plans you may have for the occasion. The hotel is warm in design and creates an environment that almost insists you slow down to enjoy the offerings of the town and the views of the harbor from the hotel, or your morning coffee on the patio by the fire pit. This will be a regular stay when I come to Catalina island for a weekend.

The Avalon Hotel on Catalina Island is one of those rare finds. From the moment we checked in, the standard for the experience was set. The staff are warm, friendly, and helpful. There are snacks and beverages available as soon as you walk in. At check in, the front desk person actually escorted us to our room and explained everything we needed to know. The rooms have a DVD player, CD player, refrigerator stocked with complimentary bottled water and Snapple, full-size hair dryer, hand steamer, safe, microwave, and complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and popcorn. Their bath products are unique and smell wonderful. The hotel has a quaint garden area where a nice complimentary breakfast is served every morning. There is also a rooftop deck with amazing views that is available for guests to use all day long. The hotel is the cleanest we've ever stayed in (and we're very picky about this). The cleaning staff is very meticulous. The room was extremely clean when we checked in, and the cleaning staff continued to thoroughly clean our room each day of our stay. It was great. We highly recommend The Avalon Hotel. We will definitely be back!
