Note that this is not, under any circumstances, a five star hotel. More like two in terms of room quality. However, I enjoyed staying here as much as I would a five-star hotel, and so that's how I'm rating it.
The Inn is best described as "funky" with all the positive and yes, negative associations the word implies. It's fun and casual, but it's also worn around the edges, with some really questionable design decisions in the somewhat garish rooms. If you're at all finicky about bad paint jobs and sagging stairways, this isn't going to be your cup of tea.
But I don't know if I'd change a thing. Who wants super-luxury when you're in a charming beach town? You're just going to track sand in on the ugly carpet anyway! The Inn is surprisingly thoughtful where it counts: excellent customer service, comfy beds with good-quality sheets, bathrobes in every room, the amazing DVD/VHS/book/magazine/record library, full kitchens in every room, and two phenomenal communal spaces really set this above anywhere else. Even the smaller rooms are relatively large and come in a variety of configurations with regards to suites and beds, making this place perfect for families or groups.
Most amazing for me is the rooftop lounge area, which highlights the amazing location (directly across the street from the beach) and the thoughtfulness of the owners. The roof has two gas grills and several separated "living room" areas with coolers, wet bars, daybeds, comfy chairs, blankets, and entertainment centers. I am convinced that watching a movie with a bottle of local wine with the ocean for a soundtrack is the best movie theater in the world. And don't worry: they provide the good-quality wine glasses.
Oh yeah, and complimentary popcorn, tea, coffee, and bottled water? Computer access? Discounts on local restaurants? And the best rates in the area? I'm sold - I just can't wait to return and kick back for an entire week in the summer.
