Good News: Beautiful, well equipped comfortable rooms and beds, with spacious bathrooms, QUIET at night, (thanks in part to vacant buildings in the same complex) and conveniently located - especially for those who like to walk or ride the trail/bike path to/from Avila Beach to taste the wines at Alapay Winery, etc. or take the short drive into Pismo Beach to visit the Cracked Crab, Steamers, Pelican Point, etc..... We were able to achieve a change of room from #114 to #106 for our third night and found that to be somewhat more private.
Bad News: The allegedly "private" spas and patios are far from private - particularly on the ground floor, with rooms #114 and 115 being open to clear view from the parking lot, other buildings (if they were occupied), the common green area, the upper floor of the hotel, and the bike path. In addition, upper floor spas drip water onto the lower floor patios and spas when they overflow or when they are being cleaned. Rain would have been OK with us - but "waste water" from another spa was not. (The maintenance staff admitted that the upstairs spa drains were not designed properly and need to be replaced). The spa in a box is over designed with configuations that may fit someone, but not us. A less complex design would likely fit anyone. And, they are apparently heated by electric heaters that require considrable time to reach the preprogarmmed level of 40 C. (Our spa at home is far more comforatble). In-room breakfast was timely but disappointing - half a pot of luke warm coffee and no better fare than at many low budget motels. We also wonder if booking through Orbitz at a lower rate than that indicated on the hotel's website resulted in our being assigned to one of the least desirable rooms on the premises.
In the unlikely event that we stay there again, we will be sure to request an upper floor room on the creekside where there is a bit more traffic noise but more privacy and no waste water from a spa other than our own -and make other arrangements for breakfast.
