“Best price in Aspen”
Reviewed 30 May 2014 via mobile

Booked through the town's visitor information centre. On arrival we were told that youngsters enjoying Colorado's latest freedom might be a bit boisterous in the courtyard that evening. This never happened. So, the room was good, not a lot of space but comfortable, beds ok. The ceiling fan made up for no air con, if the bathroom has an exhaust fan then it needs repairing. Did not sample the heated pool, it looks great though. Would come here again.

I stayed at the St Moritz for 30 days to ski and hang in the Roaring Fork valley. I highly recommend this versatile flexible lodge. It has no equal in Aspen. I met people from all over the world in the comfy lobby by the fire and in the pool which is like a hot pool, very hot and big. Many of the people I met have been coming there for 15 to 20 years. That tells me more than any review could. I will be back, for the price you pay, one can stay longer compared to high priced Aspen lodges.

Tom, the manager, and Joel were very helpful and knowledgeable with anything you might need. Rico, in maintenance is a character and a lot of fun. The owner lives on site so it is a well run ship. All of the staff will take care of you. There is a little magic here in that it is not a corporate run or managed hotel with strict rules and policies. It is more fun and friendly. I prefer that and I think a lot of folks would agree.

You will come to appreciate the wine and cookies from 4 to 6PM, a long day skiing ripens you up for a glass of wine. The breakfast in the morning, is just what a skier wants: quick and ready. At the price of lift tickets, there is no time to go out and and waste finding breakfast, taking time from your ski day.

The location is good, A mile from the Gondola, the bus is two blocks away.

If you stay in the hostel rooms be prepared for sharing the space. You get all kinds and usually you will be matched up with people of similar ages attitudes, and reasons for being there. The rooms are small but adequate. If you can't deal with snorers , or just like you're privacy than hostel may not be for you. I look at it as a fun , different experience. This was my first stay in a hostel but it won't be my last. Don't be afraid, it will be all right.

There were several guys that were staying for the whole ski season there and you won't find people like that staying at the Little Nell. This is a ski lodge more than anything else and if you like to ski, you will like it.

Room Tip: street side is quieter

Ive stayed at ST Moritz , twice in 20 years and its a great value. Once went with three other friends and stayed in a four person room for $50 a night. Stayed there Christmas week in 2011. Managers are great, helpful. property is 3/4 Hostel style of lodging in small rooms 1-3 people, 4-6 people and 1/4 small apartments. Comes with Gourmet Breakfast Aspen style and has Heated Pool, hot tub, Fireplace, movies to borrow. Walking distance to Aspen Mtn( 3 blocks) or 1.4 blocks to free bus stop. Located 3 blks west of Downtown Aspen , just near Aspen Mtn, then Highlands, Then where they have Winter X , Buttermilk, and only 4 miles to Snowmass. Free bus goes from 615AM to 230 AM in the morning. Best bus system in USA. Only 50 miles to wonder of the world other than skiing, Glenwood Springs where you have giant outdoor pool fed by Hot springs, and caves that are 108 degrees F for dry heat healing. I only paid $60 a night in 2011 for room, $73 for 2013. St Moritz is nicest hostel I have ever stayed in and unbelievable value for Aspen where avg per night is at least $400 & up or seven times what I paid. I go for the Skiing , not to impress anyone except my pocketbook... You will just love this Aspen secret & last Hostel left in Best Skiing/Shopping elite resort in the world, Aspen.

Room Tip: either try to get 2-3 others to share a room. But Ive gone solo with no problems as Girls are on the...

We really liked the St Moritz. It is on edge of town and so quiet and peaceful. We could not get to our reservation because of a,massive snowstorm and the place still refunded us 50% of cost. The outdoor pool was lovely to come back to and soak in in the cold evening. The room was comfortable with good bathroom. Breakfast leaves something to be desired though.

I've stayed at the St. Moritz a few times in both summer and winter without leaving a review.
On this last trip, something went wrong: in some sort of freak misunderstanding, our room was overbooked and there wasn't a place to put us. The reason I'm not writing a terrible review, though, is because of how the staff handled it. Not only did they give us a refund, but they did everything they could to make sure we enjoyed our trip despite the mishap, including giving us food, drinks, inviting us to use the pool and showers well after checkout, etc.

Some things I like about the St. Moritz: really awesome pool/hot tub and happy hour with free wine/cider/cookies; great breakfast with fresh fruit, eggs, cereal, etc; social atmosphere where you can make friends to ski with the next day. Rooms are a bit dated, but they are clean and well-cared for and the location is convenient. And the staff (and other guests!) make you feel like family.

So, despite what happened, we had a good experience and will be back again.

We were looking for a reasonably priced hotel in Aspen for a few days. An Expedia rep recommended the St. Moritz for us because it had good prices and a decent amount of stars. Well, the price was right, but the stars were wrong. This place was an enormous disappointment. To start, it is very dated - not "cute" dated, but "renovate, please!" dated. The front desk man was entirely unpleasant during check in. The room was like a muggy sauna and the thermostat was broken. the front desk solution was not to send someone to fix it, but to open the window - during a snow storm. But what put me over the edge were the stains on the comforter and blanket. We couldn't wait to check out.
