over 4200 vertical feet of drop from top to botto of mountain. ( One of the largest in the world) One green trail is five miles long, Buttermilk is where I learned to ski, 47 years ago. Bottom is where they hold Winter X since 2002. 75% Beginner, 20% intermediate , 5 % Expert. Best place in world to learn how to ski

not hard but easy and fun and just a beautiful place. Great for kids and lift lines are short. Very relaxed,

We were skiing all 4 mountains in 5 days so we started with Buttermilk. We last skied 2 years ago so we wanted to shake the rust off at a place not so intimidating as Ajax or Highlands.
I will say that after visiting all 4 mountains, Buttermilk was our 2nd choice behind Snowmass.
I don't want you macho guys out there to think this is a place for wimps or wussies, as there are plenty of challenging blacks and some tough blues, as well as a ton of greens for the wife.
Some things that standout about buttermilk-
Least amount of skier traffic of all the mountains.
Among the best food joints at the top-they have this awesome and healthy Mongolian restaurant where you pick your fresh veggies and meat and they cook it to perfection.
The people who worked at 4 mountain sports Buttermilk were the most helpful and friendly of all of the 4 mountain sports shops (with the exception of the 4 mountain inside ViceRoy at snowmass).
Another great thing about ButterMilk is it's proximity to Aspen airport. Our flight out was cancelled on Friday so we re-booked for 6pm Saturday. We drove to airport-checked bags, and got a taxi to cross the highway and drop us at Buttermilk--it was awesome squeezing in an extra day of skiing.
They call this a beginner mountain and it is that too-but Buttermilk has something for every level of skier.

Easiest mountain but still very doable and there are some mildly challenging routes down the mountain

Very good for beginners. You should go early in the morning when the lift opens if you want good snow. Beware that most lifts close by 4 PM. I did not know this and went very late in the afternoon and could not maximize my stay.
