Description: Say "apres ski" and most people picture something strikingly similar to Ajax Tavern - glamorous yet easy. Its sun-drenched, mountainside patio can be seen from halfway up the mountain - a simple target for lunch or cocktails. Arrive, and let the people-watching begin, there's no better seat in town. Located right next to the Silver Queen Gondola, Ajax Tavern is the hub for casual fine dining in an unbeatable atmosphere. The Tavern comes to life at lunch, and the party rolls on well into the night. If you go no further on the menu, try the truffle fries and Ajax double cheeseburger - they earned their reputation.

“Casual room with a good menu”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2014 via mobile

We had a drink at the bar before being seated. Bartender Suzanne was very friendly and the martinis were good size. Prices are average for Aspen, which is on the expensive side. We both had oysters to start and the rabbit for our main. The oysters were very fresh and the rabbit was wonderful. We noted they seem to be leaning toward corporate thinking when it comes to their drinks. Charged double for a double...which is usually less than two drinks. Waiter was apologetic, which told us it was unusual. Corporate thinking is rarely a good thing for the customer when it comes to the hospitality business.

Dear RoboColorado,
Thank you for your positive review. Susanne is one of our best, so I am happy she didn’t disappoint! I apologize that our drink pricing was a little too corporate for you – I assure you that is not our goal, in fact, it’s very much the opposite. I hope you will join us again this winter so we can give you a true Ajax Tavern experience.

Regards,
Grant Barrette

“Good downtown location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 August 2014

Based on the price point, I thought it'd be a fancier place. Most customers were casually dressed (which is fine, I just won't dress up so much next time!). The truffle fries were the best I've ever had. Drinks were delicious, and the crab legs were very fresh and huge! The only miss were the frog legs. I've had frog legs before, and these were strangely watery. Overall, I'd go back for some drinks/lunch on the patio.

“Killer view and food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

Best truffle-Parmesan fries ever.Mussels with garlic and white wine accompanied by a superb rose from Provence reminded me of a summer lunch in France. Others enjoyed a great Reuben sandwich. Dine outside for a great view of Aspen Mountain.

“Two words - Truffle fries”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

The house made hummus and warm bread served upon seating is a nice touch. A group of us shared a couple orders of the truffle fries after a morning hike - delish. I split the halibut cerviche and a kale salad with a friend. The cerviche was unlike any I'd ever had in both look and taste. I didn't care for it. The salad was fine. They serve a very nice Gruner Veltliner by the glass. Try it and some fries and you'll think you're in heaven.
