“THE reason to visit Aspen in Summer”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

I was handed a concert schedule at the Aspen airport upon my arrival, and noticed how receptive the travelers were to receive such a nice welcome from the Festival and School. As a parent of one of the musicians I, naturally, planned on attending as many concerts as possible. I was delighted by the fabulous and varied concerts, the lectures, the facility of the school and the gorgeous concert tent. Every seat was perfect, and comfortable as well. The musicians were of the highest caliber in the world. The audience was clearly made of the most appreciative music lovers. It was great to be in a place where music takes over the life of a city for a summer. If in Aspen, attend as many concerts as possible. You will be glad you did. Get the right bus schedule to the Benedict Music Tent and it will be easier than driving or walking.

This was a wonderful experience. The festival is so well managed. I never felt crowded or rushed. The music was beautiful - fitting for such a majestic venue. It was a life changing experience.

“Range of top quality experiences”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

Multiple venues for this festival and school, some with admission fee, many free. School entry by audition, so excellent musicians, superb faculty. Lovely orchestral and chamber recitals by students with guest conductors from around the music world. Master classes are superb. East to get to any venue with Aspen's superb free bus service.

“Very cool thing to do”
Reviewed 5 August 2014

We really enjoyed our unfortunately brief visit to the music festival. We went to a live taping of NPR's performance today which is one of my favorite radio shows. The music was top quality, Fred Child's interpretation and interviews were top notch, the location is lovely and the overall music "vibe" is great. Definitely worth doing.

“The High Point of a Summer Visit”
Reviewed 4 August 2014

The Aspen Music Festival represents one of the summer music highlights in the United States. Along with Tanglewood in Massachusetts, the Santa Fe Opera, and the Philadelphia Orchestra in Saratoga Springs (and I'm sure there are others), there are few better places at which to enjoy classical repertoire in a beautiful location. Consisting of two performance halls (the tent, which is somewhat open air and very large, and the concert hall, which is similar in size to a college performance venue), attendees to the music festival also benefit from being able to sit in on master classes and other events at the music school.

The performance schedule lasts from end of June through mid-August (after which time it can and does begin to snow) and is comprised of a mixture of world-famous performers and highly talented students from the music school. Don't hesitate to go to a music school concert right after hearing a famous performer; there will be little, if any, drop off in quality.

Of course, there is no more attractive setting in the U.S. than Aspen in summer. The problem is that such attractiveness comes with a hefty price--for hotels, for restaurant, etc. Also, flying into Denver, while generally cheaper, requires a 4 plus hour, if pretty, mountain drive each way to get here and flying directly into Aspen only adds to the cost. Still, if one can afford it (and if one reserves tickets for the premium events well ahead of time), this is a great way to spend part (or all) of a summer. One cost-saving hint, one can stay at nearby Aspen Highlands or at somewhat further away towns and drive over to Aspen for the concerts. Parking at the music area is reputed to be difficult but for those who have navigated U.S. sports stadia parking, parking here is relatively easy and incredibly polite.
