“The last of old Aspen”

Great friendly place in the heart of Aspen. Across from the busses to snow mass. Near all the local restaurants and reasonable prices. Free breakfast makes a great start for the day.

The front desk made reservation errors, and the manager was extremely rude and unaccommodating to us about it. Basically, we were accused of lying about the date we had reserved! It made no sense. Even a Super 8 manager would know that is unacceptable behavior. The owner of the hotel witnessed the exchange but did not intervene. She later went out of her way to apologize to us for having to go through that and said she would fix the issues for us, and then she never did. It was an unnecessarily unpleasant experience that ruined our evening. Otherwise the place was basically mediocre, good location of course, being in Aspen, but cramped, stuffy rooms, and somewhat noisy. The "you get what you pay for" philosophy of this hotel means you may have to deal with poorly-trained staff, bad service and an unfriendly atmosphere. All in all, we couldn't wait to get out of there, and we wouldn't go back though we visit Aspen often.

Unfortunately, after having looked into this, I believe the guest is right about this review. There was a mix-up with the reservation, and instead of focusing on resolving the problem, we focused on trying to assign blame. My apologies. This is not the way we intend to do business, and we will do better.

This is a great place to stay. Best location at the top of town, close to lifts and hiking paths, across from a beautiful park and the bus station, and just across the street from the St. Regis, which is 3 times the cost. Decent buffet breakfact is included as well as free 24 hour lite beverages, coffee, tea and cookies. Free computer room and wi-fi, workout room, wet steam room and dry sauna as well as a big hot spa and pool, Not fancy but homey, clean and friendly ski chalet type accomodation for less than $200 per night. Excellent value.

Room Tip: Best rooms are on 4th floor facing the mountain or the park.

We were at this hotel with family and friends to attend a beautiful wedding in Aspen. We love that even though it is an older hotel it has tons of character. Our son loved getting a game from the desk in the lobby in the evening and playing the game in the lobby. It was just like being home.

Room Tip: You can get a discount if you pay by a check. Let them know if you have stayed there before.

I stayed at the hotel to watch the pro bike race in town. First, I called ahead to make sure they had onsite paking because I knew that parking on the street would be limited. They said they have underground parking. Once I checked into the hotel I followed the twisting narrow drive to the underground parking. The guy that checked me in neglected to tell me that there were basically no spots left and the chances of parking a Tahoe is impossible. Ok moving on, I could not open my room with the key card provided, went back to the. Desk, got another card, same story. Went back to the desk, and he said that he had given me the wrong room number. Ok moving on, got into the room and it looked like the whole hotel was a patchwork of poor remodels put together with bandaids and chewing gum. Finally at 2:00 am I get a repeated knock on my door and it was some drunk guy who had the wrong room. After that a separate group of drunks collected at the park next door and proceeded to get into a fight. If you want a bed to sleep in and a great location this is a good place, if you expect anything else go elsewhere.

We wanted to go to Aspen and stay in town and not pay $250 per night. So we tried the Mountain Chalet and were very pleased. It is a simple hotel - you park your car and carry your own luggage. Our room was small, but clean and quiet. A big plus is the free breakfast - again not fancy, but very good. I would definitely stay here again.
