Thank you GM Jeff and all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable and for being so welcoming to Ruger our St. Bernard. As always, the room was impeccable and service terrific - we especially appreciate Chris keeping the bar open for us to have a needed refreshment upon our late night arrival! We also appreciated the fireplace in the lobby and the sauna in the exercise room to improve our morale during the frigid storm. The roads and parking lot were completely and timely plowed so we never had to worry about not getting out. The reception staff was particularly gracious in assisting us to change our stay dates because of the storm. Perfect!

I want to take the time to give a special thanks to Jeffery Hoess-Brooks and the staff of the Avon Old Farms Hotel. I have stayed there with my family several times over the past few years, most recently just a few weeks ago, and each stay has been excellent. The staff is friendly and helpful with local event planning and information, the accommodations excellent as always and the restaurant offers a fine selection of food for all age groups. I look forward to our next visit.

This is a great little hotel. My wife and I stayed there one night for a relaxing getaway. We read the reviews to avoid the "anex" which are older rooms and we payed extra to stay in the main hotel. Very nice rooms ,the beds were comfortable and the staff went out of their way to be helpful. Even though it is off a main road, it feels secluded. The food in the hotel dinning room was great. Breakfast was exceptional. They had all the basics, but just really good ingredients, very well done. Our waitress "Jill" was one of the best waitresses I have ever had. You get the feeling is not a big chain hotel, but that they want to make you feel at home.

Room Tip: Avoid the Anex

Despite the "Old Farms" name, this is a modern hotel building furnished with colonial reproduction style furniture. Our $200/night room was run-down, suggesting to this architect that it was over due for a renovation. The solid surface sink had several blackened cracks in the bowl; which was unappealing. The tub drain didn't work for either a bath or a shower. The carpet was badly stained. However, the beds were very comfortable with pillow - top mattresses.

Trip Advisor ought to start highlighting hotels like this who are guilty of greenwashing. They have the usual signs asking guests to save the planet by re - using towels and sheets but they are not sincere in their green concern. This room had no recycling bins. It had energy - wasting incandescent light bulbs. If they had provided more blankets, we wouldn't have had to run the heat so high all night long.

The service staff at the hotel seemed good.

My family stayed here to attend a family event in the area. My whole family agreed that this was one of the nicest places we had ever stayed. It certainly had the most comfortable beds, and was the only hotel we ever found that had a choice of firmness of pillows!

Unlike most hotels which are right off a highway and have views of cars, stores, and parking lots, two of its many sides faces a major road that is not a highway and still has many trees, and most of its sides face woods or a tree-filled courtyard. You can take a nice walk on the hotel grouds. We visited in winter and there were beautiful white lights on the trees and garlands along the bannisters.

The hallways were well lit, and some on the main floor were lined with chandeliers. One entranceway features a curving staircase with views of several nice-looking levels. We did not eat at the breakfast buffet, but it seemed to have everything...even shrimp! (I would not recommend the eggs, though...they were airy egg substitutes.)

When we arrived, there was some question as to how easy it would be to get out of there the next day because we didn't know at what time the snow storm would end, but the front desk staff assured us that we would not be kicked out at normal checkout time if we needed more time there.

Part of our family's event was at the hotel, and the staff was very accommodating.

Two tiny details I thought I'd add:
1. Their shampoo smells great!
2. In at least some rooms, the high posters on the beds partially block the view of the TV. But - surprise! - the posters unscrew!

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the woods or courtyard.

I checked in at midnight after driving all night just ready for bed only to find that the room has not been cleaned!! In all my years of traveling for both business and vacation, from stident hostels to four star hotels all over the world, this has never happened!! Incredibly irrrsponsible. I expected more from a place like this.
